Toan Nguyen
Toan Nguyen

One key pot turned the tide for Toan Nguyen on Monday, and from that point, there was no looking back.

The Sacramento native finished the day with 1,890,000 and the overwhelming chip lead of the remaining 32 players, with no one else even over a million, or even holding half of Nguyen’s stack.

Charisse Case is the next closest with 935,000, while Michael Loncar sits third with 840,000. Day 1a and 1b chip leaders Lane Jacobson and Cornel Cimpan will carry top ten stacks into Tuesday’s final day of action.

The Key Hand and the Aftermath

Nguyen had been battling back and forth with Angela Jordison midway through the day, with Jordison holding one of the biggest stacks in the room. The duo’s clashes finally reached a crescendo when Jordison took a stand against Nguyen in a nearly million chip pot with Nguyen’s queens holding over Jordison’s jacks.

Jordison was unable to recover from that and was eliminated in 43rd place for $4,850.

Nguyen however put his newfound chips to great use, continuing to build before winning two more large hands at the end of the night versus Jeffrey Lennon, who had been in contention for the chip lead before running into Nguyen.

The Remaining Contenders and the Fallen

Among those who avoided the runaway train that was Nguyen to also advance to Day 3 were RunGood Ambassadors Tyler Patterson (570,000), Ray Henson (455,000), and Ben Ludlow (260,000). Brett Murray (570,000) and Arthur Tanimoto (545,000) will also take decent stacks into Tuesday.

Plenty of big names made the money but were unable to advance including Cedrric Trevino (33rd - $5,650), Darren Rabinowitz (38th - $4,850) Andrew Moreno (48th - $4,100) and Scott Stewart (61st - $3,550) to name just a few.

The Champion Will be Crowned Tuesday

The majority of the first-ever $1,000,000 guaranteed prizepool in RunGood history will be handed out on Tuesday with the winner collecting a massive $193,430.

Each of the remaining 32 players will take home at least $5,650, but they’ll all have their eyes on that six-figure first prize, the RunGood Contenders Series ring, and a seat in the RunGood Pro-Am at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas later this month.

Play will resume at noon local time with level 19 which will see blinds of 10,000/15,000 and a 15,000 big blind ante.

Keep it right here with PokerNews for complete live reporting coverage until the champion is crowned here at the beautiful Thunder Valley Casino Resort.

Nguyen Approaching Two Million

Level 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Toan Nguyen
Toan Nguyen

What started as an innocent enough pot turned into a raising war that has seen Toan Nguyen extend his chip lead even further to end the night.

Jeffrey Lennon raised to 26,000 in the cutoff and was called by Nguyen in the big blind.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the fun began.

Nguyen started with a check and Lennon bet 17,000. The aggressive Nguyen then check-raised to 55,000.

Lennon came back with a raise to 130,000, but that still wasn't enough for Nguyen, who now made it 260,000.

Lennon went into the tank for a couple of minutes, and then shaking his head and looking visibly frustrated, he mucked his cards and sent the pot to Nguyen.

Nguyen kept up the pressure with a bet of 250,000. After a bit of pause, Lennon folded to send a sizable pot to Nguyen.

Meanwhile at an adjacent table, Cedrric Trevino was eliminated.

After Jack Surwald moved all in in early position for 112,000, Stephen Song called in the cutoff to put him at risk.

Jack Surwald: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}
Stephen Song: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

The flop came {9-Spades}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} giving Surwald plenty of additional outs with a flush draw, but the {7-Diamonds} on the turn sealed the hand for Song, even before the {7-Spades} on the river gave him quad sevns to win the hand in emphatic fashion.

Jordison Crushed by Nguyen in Biggest Pot of Tournament

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Angela Jordison
Angela Jordison

Toan Nguyen and Angela Jordison have been battling for a couple of levels with Jordison recently picking off Nguyen's bluff attempt with second pair.

Their battle came to a head recently in a massive pot that saw Nguyen take the majority of Jordison's chips.

Nguyen opened in early position to 19,000 and was three-bet by Jordison in late position to 55,000. Nguyen came back with a four-bet to 120,000 and Jordison five-bet jammed on him for 463,000 effective.

After a couple of minutes of thought Nguyen spiked a stack of chips forward to call, creating a nearly 1,000,000 chip pot.

Toan Nguyen: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Angela Jordison: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Nguyen's queens had Jordison's jacks pipped, and after the {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} runout, the chips were pushed to Nguyen who claimed the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

On the {3-Hearts} river, Nguyen bet 41,000 and after a bit of deliberation, Jordison called.

Nguyen showed {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a failed bluff, while Jordison showed {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flopped second pair which was good.

Rabinowitz Survives Bubble Cooler Versus Loncar

Darren Rabinowitz
Darren Rabinowitz

After Darren Rabinowitz opened under the gun to 12,000, Michael Loncar three-bet to 35,000.

Action folded back to Rabinowitz who moved all in for 164,000 and Loncar snap-called.

Darren Rabinowitz: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Michael Loncar: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Rabinowitz was on the verge of being the bubble boy despite having 27 big blinds to start the hand.

The dealer saved him though as he fanned {3-Hearts}{5-Spades}{k-Spades} to give Rabinowitz a set of kings.

Loncar couldn't score the re-suck though as the {3-Clubs} turn and {4-Diamonds} river sealed the hand and prolonged the bubble.

Evan Maurer

With 100,000 in the middle on a completed board of {5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, Evan Maurer checked his big blind to his opponent under the gun.

After a bet of 35,000 was placed, Maurer check-raised all-in for 256,000.

Maurer's opponent was deep in the tank facing a decision for his tournament life. Ultimately, he made the call.

Maurer showed {9-Hearts}{7-Spades} for quad nines. His opponent angrily tossed {k-Spades}{q-Spades} to the muck before leaving the tournament floor and leaving the remaining 64 players hand-for-hand on the stone bubble.
