Katz Bags Chiplead in Day 1a of Main Event

Level 13 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ari Katz

After 13 levels of play, flight Day 1a of the $1,100 RunGood Main Event Baltimore has come to a close with four players advancing to Day 2 on Sunday.

Day 1a only saw 38 entries take their seats, but that number is expected to more than double for each of tomorrow’s flights b and c. Leading the way from this flight is Ari Katz with 416,000 followed by Huan Ho with 300,000, Grant Juric (259,000), and David Danlag (165,000).

Although it was a relatively short field compared to other RunGood events, there was definitely no shortage of action for this buy-in size and chips were actively being moved around the tables as players tried to build up their stacks. Some notable players that took their shot in this flight but failed to make the cut included WSOP Main Event Champ Greg Raymer, Caitlyn Arnwine, Christian Harder, and RGPS Ambassador Ben Ludlow.

One player who was actively involved throughout the day was Katz, who kept constant pressure on his opponents and was not afraid to give them a good staredown. And of course, it was Katz who wound up knocking out Ken Baime on the money bubble in 5th place when his ace-deuce cracked Baime’s pocket jacks and gave him the chip lead.

These players will return on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. where they will combine with the other surviving players from Day 1bc and will play down to a winner.

As always, stay tuned with PokerNews as we will be providing all of the updates for the RunGood Main Event here at Horseshoe Baltimore!

Ken Baime

After Ari Katz opened to 12,000, Ken Baime moved all in for 77,000 total. After some inner debate, Katz talked himself into a call and the cards were tabled.

Ken Baime: JJ
Ari Katz: A2

Baime was ahead of Katz with his pocket jacks, but the flop of A95 put him way behind as Katz flopped a pair of aces. The runout of K5 did not provide him the much-needed jack and he was sent to the exit on the money bubble.

After some back and forth, Greg Raymer and Huan Ho got all the chips into the middle

Greg Raymer: A9
Huan Ho: KK

Ho was way ahead on the flop of 1094, but the turn 7 gave Raymer a lot of outs as any ace, nine or spade would give him the win. Unfortunately, the river was a brick 3 and Raymer was eliminated from this flight.

Short-stacked Christian Harder got it all in preflop against David Danlag, with the former at risk.

Christian Harder: QJ

Raymer Doubles Up

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Greg Raymer
Greg Raymer

Greg Raymer moved all in preflop for around 65,000 and John Lammle made the call to put him at risk.

Greg Raymer: AQ
John Lammle: AK

Although Lammle had Raymer crushed with his superior holding, the flop of 4QA gave his opponent the lead with two pair. The turn 10 gave Lammle a few more outs as he picked up a gutshot straight draw but the A on the river did not get it done as it further improved Raymer to a full house to award him the double-up.

Rollercoaster for Ludlow

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Ben Ludlow
Ben Ludlow

On a heads-up turn of 51075, Matt Sabia led out for 4,400 and then Ben Ludlow raised it up to 13,000.

After a few seconds, Sabia announced he was all in for around 20,000 and Ludlow made the call to put him at risk.

Matt Sabia: 77
Ben Ludlow: A10

"Oooohh," the table let out a collective gasp as the hands were tabled, with Ludlow needing only a ten to take the pot.

The river 3 did not do it for him and Sabia was awarded the full double-up while Ludlow was short stack once again.

Lucky for Ludlow, the very next he picked up pocket aces and managed to get it all in against Ari Katz and doubled back up himself.

David Danlag
David Danlag

David Danlag opened from the cutoff to 2,000 but was then raised to 4,500 from Joseph "Joey" Lebrun on the button. Danlag decided to make the call and the two went heads-up to a flop of KQ4, which both players checked.

The turn came the K and Danlag led out for 5,000 and Lebrun called to see the Q arrive on the river.

Danlag then tossed out a bet of 10,000, most of Lebrun's stack, and he quickly received a fold to be awarded the pot.

Ari Katz
Ari Katz

Faced with a bet of 1,200 preflop, Sam Ilyas moved all in for his last 9,000.

"Who wants to give me 9,000?" he asked the table as he stood up.

The action then folded around to Ari Katz who quickly made the call to put him at risk and the cards were tabled.

Sam Ilyas: AJ
Ari Katz: 88

"Ok its a flip!" Ilyas said as the dealer spread out the flop of 622 to keep Katz in the lead. The runout of K9 was of no help to Ilyas and he was sent to the exit as Katz raked in yet another pot.
