Englekirk Takes Slim Lead After Day 1a of RunGood Poker Series Reno Main Event

Day 1a of the $600 RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint Main Event has ended after close to eight hours of play. The day drew 112 entries, and as the dust settled at the night's end, just 14 players remained.

Ending the night as chip leader was Dwight Englekirk with 433,000 as he barely pipped [Removed:420] (418,000) for the in the clubhouse chip lead in one of the last hands of the night to steal it away from Vinluan who had been overwhelming chip leader with over 650,000 not long before.

Xingyao Wang and Corey Paggeot were the other two players who were able to bag up over 400,000. Both players won several hands in the final few levels of the night to move up the counts and finish on the top shelf. Carlos Resendiz would round out the top five stacks with 341,000 at night’s end.

A couple of other notable players to advance on to Day 2 among the surviving fourteen included; Jessica Plusko (255,000) and Loren Klein (81,000) who was able to survive on the stone bubble at the end of the night when he came from behind to out-flop a pocket pair.

Several players such as Jamie Kerstetter, Conrad Simpson and Ian Steinman took their shot at advancing to Day 2 but will have to try again tomorrow as they found their stacks exhausted during the day.

Jeff Platt will have to give it another shot tomorrow as well, as he tempted fate with a slow roll holding pocket aces against Paggeot but saw them go up in flames against ace-king with runner-runner broadway.

The fourteen players will now advance to Day 2, which is at 12 noon on Sunday. They will be joined by the survivors of Day 1b and Day 1c, played tomorrow.

Poker Gods Punish Platt For Slow Roll

Under the gun limped, Jeff Platt was next to act and raised to 6,000. Corey Paggeot was in the small blind and jammed all in. Under the gun swiftly folded and Platt thought for about 20 seconds for his remaining amount of around 40,000. Eventually, he called.

Paggeot turned over the AxKx and Platt revealed that he had been slow rolling with his tank as he showed pocket rockets AxAx.

The flop came 10x7x6x. The turn was the Qx to provide a little bit of sweat before the river was the Jx to connect the straight for Paggeot and send Platt out the door on Day 1a.

Platt left in good spirits regardless while retelling the hand and making sure to point out his slow roll which the poker gods may have ended up punishing him for.

RunGood Series Reno $600 Main Event Takes Center Stage at 6 p.m.

The RunGood Poker Series has made it’s way to Reno, NV for the first time this week for the inaugural RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint at Atlantis Casino. The action has been flying all week long and building up to the $600 RunGood Series Checkpoint Main Event which gets underway tonight at 6 p.m. local time.

The Main Event has three starting flights with, Day 1a being tonight at 6 p.m. pacific time. Day 1b will be Saturday May 6 at 11 a.m. and the final starting flight will be Day 1c at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

The series here in Reno has already had several events complete, with multiple players taking home a RunGood Series ring. A couple of those include; Harley Brooks who won Event #6: $250 Double Green Chip Bounty for $2,945 and Joseph Mussat who achieved his ring by winning Event #4: $250 DeepStack No-Limit Hold’em for $10,213 after beating a nice field of 202 runners.

The structure for the Main Event is the same across the three starting flights. The $600 buy-in will give each player a 30,000 starting stack. Levels are 30 minutes on Day 1 and registration will remain open until the start of Level 9 (~10:30 p.m.). There will be 15-minute breaks every four levels of play. Day 1 will finish once 12.5% of the field is reached, which is where all the surviving players will be in the money and advance on to Day 2 which will be on Sunday May 7 at 12 noon.
