Day 1ab Started
The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) may have just concluded, but the PokerNews live updates will continue to roll in in the form of the second annual $600 buy-in, $500,000 GTD The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship ! Just like last year, this exciting event will kick off today at 10 a.m. at Thunder Valley Casino Resort just north of Sacramento, California.
The tournament is in partnership with three-time Best Mid-Major Poker Tour, the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS), which is currently hosting their final stop of the “Destination” season at Thunder Valley. That’s because RGPS has provided their top 5 Poker Players of the Year a prize package of over $2,000 in value which includes airfare, hotel, and buy-in for The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship.
Leading this group is the official RGPS POY Brian Winter, who was awarded this title a few weeks ago and will be presented with his very own banner that will travel around with RunGood throughout the following year.
As for today's tournament, last year, it was Jagdeep Bal who topped a field of 1,605 entries to take the first-place prize of $71,036 after an astounding 8-way final table ICM chop.
| Place | Player | Prize |

This tournament will consist of five starting flights, with the players who advance from each flight combining on Monday, July 29th for the Day 2 finale.
| Event | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Flight Day 1a | July 26 | 10 a.m. |

With this $600 buy-in, players will receive 30,000 in chips and will play 30-minute levels, starting at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Play for Day 1 flights will continue until the field is cut down to 12.5% and those remaining players will then be "In the Money" and will bag up for their return on Day 2.
Players can re-enter this event only once per flight, so the maximum number of times a player can enter this event will be ten times if they choose to fire each flight.
Stay tuned as the PokerNews Updates will continue to roll in as the coverage of The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship gets underway!

On a three-way flop of J♦Q♦6♠, the action checked to Thomas Phillips on the button who bet 700. This resulted in a fold from small blind George Saca and a call from big blind Jonathan Burns.
The two players then checked through the K♦ turn and went to the 9♥ river.
Burns then decided to lead for 2,100 and received a quick fold from Phillips to award him the pot.

The turn came the 10♣ and Hada check-called another bet from Salameh, this time for 2,100.
When the river fell the 2♥, Hada checked once more to Salameh, who fired a third time for 2,200 and was quickly called by Hada.
Salameh frowned and flipped over A♥9♠ for ace-high while Hada tabled J♠9♦ for a pair of jacks to take the pot.

John Duel opened to 1,000 from the cutoff and was then three-bet to 2,200 from Scott Waugman on the button. Marcus Mims made the call from the big blind and Duel decided to come along as well to see the flop of K♦8♣8♦.
All three players decided to check and they went to the turn Q♠, which saw Mims lead for 3,000 and get quickly called by his two opponents.
On the river 5♦, Mims fired again for 5,000 which got a fold from Duel and a call from Waugman.
Mims then confidently rolled over A♠8♠ for trip eights while Waugman shook his head and tabled A♥A♣ that were no good.
"I knew there was an eight out there somewhere, I folded king-queen!" Duel claimed as Mims raked in the pot.
