Garvis Frazier made it 1,300 to go from early position. Jack Willman called on the button. The small blind joined the fray with a call, and Steven Myers called out of the big blind.
The Q♣Q♥4♥ flop was checked to Willman on the button. Willman bet 3,000. The small blind folded, but Myers opted to check-raise to 6,000. Frazier folded, and Willman made the call.
Both players checked the 9♦ turn, ushering in the 5♠ river.
Myers bet 4,000 on the river. That was enough to fold out Willman as Myers took down the pot on the river without a showdown.
Lisa Schuessler limped from early position before Jeffrey McMillen made it 1,000 on the button. Jonathan Wofford called out of the small blind, but the big blind was interested in playing a bigger pot when they three-bet to 7,000. Schuessler folded, but McMillen went for a four-bet and made it 15,000 to go in response. Wofford folded, but the big blind made the call.
The big blind checked the J♣3♣8♥ flop before McMillen went all-in for approximately 20,000. The big blind called and put himself at risk for less.
Big Blind: Q♥Q♦
Jeffrey McMillen A♦A♠
McMillen had his opponent in dire straits as he needed to fade two queens to score the knockout early on Day 1a.
The queen never came on the 8♣ turn or the 9♠ river as McMillen secured the knockout.
Bruce Vang limped from the hijack before Jeffrey Bryan followed with a limp from the cutoff. Perry Chupp wanted to play for more and made it 1,200 to go on the button. Vang folded, but Bryan was still interested and made the call.
The flop came A♣K♠J♦ before Bryan checked. Chupp continued for 1,200 and was called.
Both players slowed down and checked the Q♥ turn and the J♥ river to go to a showdown.
Bryan showed K♥3♥ for a pair of kings, which was good as Chupp mucked his hand.
