Stanford Keeps Adding to Tunica Tournament Success
It's been another successful week for Mississippi native Cody Stanford, who added to his impressive RunGood ring total before joining the Main Event at Horseshoe Casino Tunica.
The RGPS Ambassador captured his ninth ring earlier this week in the $250 PokerNews PowerStack, earning $18,067 for the win. He followed that up with a third-place run in the $300 Pot Limit Omaha event, coming close to hitting double digits in the RGPS win column.
"It always feels good to win but it was definitely a battle," Stanford told PokerNews about his PowerStack win while waiting for the final flight to begin shortly. "I think I was like 15th in chips with 50 players left or so. Final table with six and five and four players, I was a short stack. Three-handed, there was 11 million in play, and I had one million of the 11, and just got 2 doubles and then kind of switched gears, but definitely felt good."
When asked if he was following the PokerNews PowerStack Leaderboard closely, Stanford admitted it will now be on his mind a lot more.
"I haven't (followed) until now, but I for sure will now. I know that Nicholas Rigby is off to a good start on the leaderboard, so we might have a little fun competition between me and him."
Stanford has tasted plenty of success at his home casino, capturing the RunGood Main Event here in Tunica on multiple occassions. The first was back in the 2020 RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Tunica $575 Main Event, and he backed that up with a victory last spring in the 2025 RGPS Mission RunGood Tunica $600 Main Event.
"This is a good place for RunGood, I think this is one of their top five busiest stops, and the people here love it, which is important. It's always fun, good energy, good vibes. It's my home casino, so I always love it here."
