Lucas Tae Wins RGPS Seminole Coconut Creek Event #2: $130 Opening Night

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Lucas Tae
Lucas Tae

While our live updates this weekend are focused on the $600 Main Event, this tournament is actually the culmination of a week's worth of tournaments.

Earlier this week, Event #2: $130 Opening Night Ring Event more than doubled its $10,000 guarantee as 211 runners generated a $20,678 prize pool. The top 27 finishers got paid including Nick Visconti (10th - $434), Wade Hinds (14th - $372), Barry Chazen (16th - $310), Jason Casten (19th - $248), Maxton Goncalves (23rd - $191), and Mark Brannick (26th - $154).

The title came down to Lucas Tae and Kimani McKoy, and the two battled in a lengthy heads-up affair. Ultimately it was Tae, a WSOP Circuit ring winner, who prevailed to claim a $5,028 first-place prize. The win came a month after he finished runner-up in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Event #7: $200 NLH Big Stack for a career-high $37,055.

Cai Hits a Flush on Kegel

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

As reported on by the excellent Seminole Coconut Creek Poker blog ran by @AlCantHang, Jessica Cai raised to 1,200 from the cutoff, and was called by Scott Zakheim on the button and Tim Kegel in the small blind.

Kegel bet 1,400 on the {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, and both Cai and Zakheim called.

Kegel bet 2,300 on the {j-Diamonds} turn, and only Cai called.

The {6-Spades} fell on the river, and Kegel fired 4,000. Cai called after a short stint in the tank, and Kegel showed {k-Spades}{9-Spades} for a flopped two pair. Cai was waiting with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a flush, however, and she took down the pot.

Cohen Doesn't Back Down

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

The big blind led out for 2,100 on a {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop, and a player in middle position folded. Roy Cohen raised to 7,000 in the cutoff, and the big blind called.

The big blind jammed for 15,300 on the {2-Spades} turn, and Cohen wasted little time making the call.

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Roy Cohen: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

The big blind threw his hands up in exasperation at the sight of Cohen's hand, and headed out the door when the {9-Hearts} peeled off on the river.

Gerard Donaghy checked a {4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{8-Spades} flop from middle position, and Phillip Hui bet 1,200 next to act. Donaghy check-raised to 5,000, and Hui called.

Donaghy bet 10,000 on the {3-Hearts} turn, and Hui, who had 11,400 left in his stack, tanked for a few moments before flashing a card to Donaghy and folding.

Yassa Pips Sundberg For a Dub

Nagui Yassa
Nagui Yassa

After a raise to 2,500 and two calls, Nagui Yassa three-bet shoved for 8,800 in the cutoff. Matt Sundberg four-bet jammed for 42,100 in the small blind, chasing out the remaining players.

Nagui Yassa: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Matt Sundberg: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Sundberg's kicker problem would fail to be resolved on a {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} runout, and Yassa nearly tripled up.

A Pair of Late Arrivals

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
Phillip Hui
Phillip Hui

Two big names have recently registered for the tournament, and both are champions in different fields. Phillip Hui was first to jump in, and Hui's poker accomplishments include two WSOP Gold Bracelets, the most recent of which was the 2019 WSOP Event #58: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, where he earned a seven-figure payday of $1,099,311 for his victory.

Also in the field is "Boston" Rob Mariano, who according to his personal website, is the first and only six time participant on the hit CBS show, Survivor, and he won the title of “Sole Survivor” on the show’s 22nd season “Survivor: Redemption Island”. He’s also appeared twice on The Amazing Race, along with his wife Amber, winner of “Survivor: All-Stars” (2004).

The two players add to an already packed field of over 250 players, with 90 minutes left to go in the registration period.

Bendeck Wrecks One

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante

Roberto Bendeck raised to 1,300 from the cutoff, then called when the button three-bet shoved for 8,800.

Opponent: {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Roberto Bendeck: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

"Gimme a ten!" Bendeck's opponent said, but one would fail to materialize on the {q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop. The button did pick up a gutshot, but improved no further on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {7-Spades} river to bust.
