Taylor Howard Looking to Continue Crushing the Mid-Majors

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Taylor Howard
Taylor Howard

Nebraska's Taylor Howard has been making a name for himself in the mid-major circuits in recent years, and Howard has already made a splash in this week's RunGood Poker Series at Horseshoe Council Bluffs, turning a $185 investment in Event #3: $185 Deepstack Ring Event into a $3,601 payday.

Howard has already spun up a stellar year of results in the short time that poker rooms have been running, with four cashes and a win in a $250 Turbo Bounty event in the bestbet Winter Open series in Jacksonville to start the year off in January. March saw Howard's rising stardom cemented, as he was able to ship the MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship for $119,165 and his second career MSPT title.

Howard, who now has two cashes in RGPS events leading up to today's $575 Main Event, will certainly be one to watch as he looks to add a RunGood Poker Series All-Star Ring to his growing trophy case.

Fink Fears No Quads

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mark Fink
Mark Fink

A player checked an {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop from middle position, and Mark Fink checked back next to act.

The middle-position player checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn, and Fink bet 2,000 into a pot of 3,600, which the middle-position player called.

The {a-Diamonds} fell on the river, and the middle-position player led out for 3,500. Fink responded with a raise to 10,000, and the middle-position player went into the tank. After a minute, he folded, and Fink showed his opponent {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} before scooping in the pot.

Nuwwarah's Nut Flush Earns a Needed Dub

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mo Nuwwarah
Mo Nuwwarah

There was already a pot of 8,000 built up and a {4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts} board on the felt, when a player in middle position checked over to Mo Nuwwarah next to act. Nuwwarah gathered up his remaining 4,900 into a single column and stuck them in the middle.

"Call," the middle-position player said instantly.

Nuwwarah tabled {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the nut flush, and his opponent mucked.

Spahiu Fades Berthelsen's Draw

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

Kevin Berthelsen checked a {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board from middle position, and Donald Spahiu bet 1,300 into a pot of 3,000 from the hijack. Berthelsen called.

The {2-Spades} fell on the turn, and Berthelsen set a large stack of chips into the pot, enough to cover Spahiu's last 12,800. Spahiu tanked for about a minute, then committed his stack with the flick of a single chip.

Donald Spahiu: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Kevin Berthelsen: {a-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Berthelsen could hit a club or a deuce to earn the knockout, but the {q-Hearts} river left the aces of Spahiu in front for the double.

Reiss Fades the Straight Flush

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

J.R. Reiss raised to 600 from middle position, and Grant Hinkle called on the button. The big blind three-bet shoved for 2,700, and Reiss four-bet to 5,500, which was enough to shake off Hinkle.

Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
J.R. Reiss: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop gave Reiss's opponent an open-ended straight flush draw, but the {4-Clubs} turn gave Reiss the nut flush, and no miracle straight-flush hit on the {a-Diamonds} river to eliminate Reiss's opponent.

Dick Saved By the River

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Craig Dick
Craig Dick

A player raised to 600 from middle position, and Bryan Skreens called in the small blind. Craig Dick three-bet to 2,200 in the big blind, and both the middle-position player and Skreens called.

Skreens checked the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop to Dick, who quickly fired out 6,000. The middle-position player then jammed for 24,600, and Skreens, who looked bemused at the situation, tanked for a bit before folding. Dick quickly called off his last 23,000.

Craig Dick: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Dick's Big Slick had been cracked by the flopped Broadway straight of the middle-position player, and while the {4-Clubs} turn provided no help, the {q-Hearts} river gave both players a straight, prompting a quick, "Chop it up!" from Dick.
