Ryan Fetherkile Takes Overall Chip Lead Into Day 2 of Record Breaking RGPS Horseshoe Council Bluffs Main Event

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Ryan Fetherkile
Ryan Fetherkile

A record-setting day awaited the RunGood Poker Series Hollywood Council Bluffs $575 Main Event, as Day 1b (277 entrants) and Day 1c (304 entrants) brought the total field to a RGPS record 852 entrants. Of the 581 entrants in today's two flights, just 108 (47 from 1a, 61 from 1b) made it through to Day 2, joining the 55 that earned their ticket in Friday's Day 1a.

Of the two flights, the overall chip leader of the day was Day 1b's Ryan Fetherkile, who bagged up 297,500 chips to take the lead. Fetherkile's rise to the top was punctuated by a kings over queens battle that netted him a large pot in the latter stages of the day, which helped him narrowly edge Horseshoe Council Bluffs poker dealer Michael Briggs (254,000) for the day's chip lead.

Day 1b's chip leader was Kip Smith, who bagged 283,000 to fall a few thousand chips shy of the aforementioned Fetherkile Day 2. Smith was at an action table for the latter portion of the day, with Twitch Streamer Alex "AlexOptional" Green (100,000) and Timothy Sciscoe (224,000) both at the table, and the trio traded blows for much of the day. Smith ended up as the victor in terms of chips, and takes over 90 big blinds to Day 2.

Not everyone was able to make it through to Day 2, however, including RunGood Ambassadors Daniel Lowery and Emily Larson, Luke Blindert, Bryan Skreens, and Pete Dirksen.

Day 2 will kick off at Noon on Sunday, June 27th, with the remaining 163 players playing down to a champion. Play will resume with 15-minutes remaining in Level 13 (2,000/3,000 ante 3,000), and levels will be 45-minutes in length for the remainder of the tournament.

PokerNews will be here providing all the action from start to finish, so be sure to stay tuned as we crown the latest RunGood Poker Series champ and award another coveted All Stars Ring and a Pro-Am seat into the All-Stars Event at the end of the year!

Hood Finds the Perfect River to Double Through Skreens Into the Chip Lead

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Bryan Skreens
Bryan Skreens

One player was already all in and a substantial pot was brewing on the side between Bryan Skreens in early position and Benjamin Hood in the cutoff.

Skreens checked a {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds} board over to Hood, who bet 14,000. Skreens check-raised to 40,000, and Hood called.

Skreens checked the {j-Hearts} river, and Hood quickly pushed his remaining 57,200 in the middle.

"That's the one card I didn't want to see!" Skreens exclaimed, standing up in response. He eventually made the call for most of his stack with {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, but his premonition turned out to be spot on, as Hood rolled over {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for a full house, and after the original all in player mucked his {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}, Hood earned a knockout and leapt to one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Booth Fills Up For a Knockout

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Kristen Booth
Kristen Booth

Four players invested 5,000 a piece to see a {5-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop together. Action checked to Kristen Booth, who bet 15,000. The player next to act jammed for 25,600, and action folded back to Booth, who quickly called.

Opponent: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Kristen Booth: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Booth's opponent went with the open-ended straight draw, but it was Booth who improved on the {a-Diamonds}, {5-Spades} runout, rivering a full house for the knockout.

"Sorry man," Booth told her opponent after the hand, to which her opponent smiled and said, "Don't be sorry! You nailed it!"

Papa Karn got his last 8,500 in from the small blind, and was at risk against Cecilia Foster in the cutoff.

Papa Karn: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Cecilia Foster: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}

Craig Schuh
Craig Schuh

A player three-bet shoved for 10,700 on the button, and Craig Schuh made a reluctant call in the cutoff to put the button at risk.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Craig Schuh: {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}

Schuh fell behind on the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, but caught up immediately on the {5-Clubs} turn, making a wheel, and the {4-Hearts} river earned him a knockout.

"Told you I didn't want to!" Schuh told a tablemate after the hand.

McMillen Shoulda Looked

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Ron McMillen
Ron McMillen

A player raised to 2,000 from early position, and Ron McMillen, who is in quite the jovial mood, looked at this cards in the big blind.

"They're suited, y'know," McMillen told his opponent as he called. "If they weren't I fold this!"

"I check!" McMillen said, looking away from the {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} flop before it could fall. His opponent checked back.

"I check!" McMillen continued on the {q-Hearts} turn, still looking towards his opponent and not at the board. His opponent checked again.

The {4-Clubs} fell on the river, and McMillen checked aloud for a third straight street, still never looking at the board. His opponent checked a third time.

"Ace-high?" McMillen asked his opponent, who indeed held {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for ace-high. McMillen peeled the {3-Spades} up first, then the {k-Spades} second for king-high.

"Look at that! Had I saw my hand, I woulda bet!" McMillen said when he saw his flush draw on the flop. McMillen's opponent took the small pot, while McMillen himself looked none the worse for wear after the tiny loss.

Albert Finds a Flush

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Chris Albert
Chris Albert

Three players saw a {2-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop hit the felt, and action checked to a player in middle position, who bet 2,500. The small blind folded, while Chris Albert called in the big blind.

Albert checked the {k-Clubs} turn to his opponent, who bet 4,500. Albert check-raised to 13,000, and Albert's opponent went deep into the tank. After a few minutes of counting down his remaining 18,500, the middle-position player settled on a fold.

Albert elected to reveal his {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a flush before raking in the pot.

The Saga of the "Card on the Floor"

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Taylor Howard
Taylor Howard

"Floor, Table 8!"

A crowd gathered over at Table 8, and two players had cards on their backs from a preflop all-in confrontation. One was big stack Taylor Howard, who held {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

The other was a player who, at first glance, held just the {a-Clubs} for his remaining 12,000 chips.

When the player with the lone ace went all in, he apparently flung his cards on the felt, and one took an errant bounce off the table, resulting in the floor being called over to retrieve the missing card; the {j-Hearts}.

With the hands restored, the board came a drama-free {4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs} to give Howard the pot and the knockout.

Lagana Saved By the River

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Mike Lagana
Mike Lagana

A player jammed for 6,100 from middle position, and Mike Lagana three-bet shoved for 19,300 from the hijack. The button cold-called, and the blinds folded.

Middle Position: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Mike Lagana: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Button: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

The {8-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{5-Spades} flop gave the button a commanding lead, and the {3-Clubs} changed nothing. The {10-Diamonds} river brought a round of gasps from the table, and prompted one of Lagana's tablemates to remark, "I need a beer after that one!" Lagana took out his phone and snapped a quick photo of his good fortune, then raked in the pot.
