Cody Coffman Bags Day 1a Chip Lead in RGPS Kansas City Main Event

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

The first of three starting flights at the RunGood Poker Series Kansas City main event is over and Cody Coffman has bagged the chip lead in front of 24 other players heading to Day 2.

The opening flight drew 113 entries and several of the RGPS regulars have already moved on to Day 2 including RGPS Council Bluffs main event champion Derrick Contreras (87,500).

Anthony Ernstein catapulted to the front of the chip leaderboard early in the day after a four-way knockout where he flopped two pair and eliminated three players. He would hover around the same stack for much of the night, but fell to his 89,500 — still good for a top-ten stack.

PokerNews podcast host [Removed:139] busted toward the end of the evening to Beau Wilshire, who finished tenth in this event last time the RGPS was in town. Wilshire bagged 161,000.

Kevin Berthelsen (276,500), Wilshire, Ryan Anderson (130,000), and Mason Hinkle (120,000) round out the top five counts heading into Day 2 so far. There are two flights remaining before that though.

The next flight begins on Friday at 7 p.m. The updates and photos of the entire main event will be right here on PokerNews.com

Papa Karn found a double heading into the final moments of Day 1a with pocket kings.

At the next table, [Removed:139] moved all in from middle position for his last 32,000. Beau Wilshire called from the big blind with {j-}{j-} against the {5-}{5-} of Platt.

The board ran out, bringing no help for Platt and he headed to the rail as the players were getting ready to draw for the final hands of the evening.
