Dinner Time

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

We're going on a 45-minute dinner break. We'll have updated chip counts when we return.

Geatreau's Straight Flush Helps Burst the Bubble

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

We didn't catch the hand until the end, but Pierre Gaureau relayed to us what was the biggest pot of the tournament thus far — by far.

On a flop of {6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} Peter Raimondi led out for 12,000 and Geatreau called to see the {10-Hearts} on the turn. Raimondi led again, this time for 17,000, and Geatreau called. The river was the {K-Hearts} and Raimondi bet 70,000. Geatreau moved all in and Raimondi snap called, saying he had the nuts with {K-}{10-} for a full house.

But he didn't have the nuts — Geatreau tabled the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a straight flush to win a massive pot and send Raimondi to the rail just short of the money.

The money bubble burst at the other table moments later, and the remaining 15 players are guaranteed $360.

Goertz Loses a Race

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

With a limper in front, Stephanie Goertz moved all in for 16,500 from the button and the player in the small blind called. The limper got out of the way and Goertz was flipping with {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} against {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for her the board ran out {2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and she was eliminated from the tournament.

Repeat Performance for Ciffa?

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Joe Ciffa contonues his climb up the leaderboard. We walked up to his table to see Ciffa check on a {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop. Travell Thomas bet 7,500, Peter Raimondi called, and Ciffa quickly tossed out six T5,000 chips for a raise. Thomas folded, and Raimondi went deep into the tank.

"You got six-seven," he asked Ciffa.

"Close!"

Raimondi thought it over a bit longer before mucking his {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} face up. Ciffa was kind enough to show his {6-Spades}{8-Spades} before raking in another nice pot.

Revere Makes Quads

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Jonathan Revere and two other players limped preflop, and the player in Seat 1 moved all in. Revere re-shoved, prompting the other two limpers to fold.

Revere needed help with his {A-Spades}{9-Spades} against {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}, and he got more than he needed with the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{X-} board. Quads were good enough for Revere to send one player to the rail and cross the 100K mark.

Ciffa Still Running Hot

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Event #2 champ Joe Ciffa limped from early position and Travell Thomas raised to 7,500 directly behind. Only Ciffa called, and Ciffa then shoved for 27,700 on the {7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop. Thomas called instantly.

Ciffa: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Thomas: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}

Thomas was in control through the {2-Clubs} turn, but the {10-Hearts} completed the board to give Ciffa trip tens and the pot.

Ansel Outflips Thomas

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Travell Thomas raised to 4,500 from under the gun and got two callers. Brett Ansel then moved all in for 25,000 from the cutoff. Thomas reshoved all in, and the other two players got out of the way.

"You're ahead," Thomas said as he flipped over the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. He was right — Ansel had the {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} — and the {3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts} secured a much-needed double for Ansel.
