$300 No Limit Hold’em

Day 1a Completed

17 Survive The First Of Four Flights

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Tom Yeghoughian
Tom Yeghoughian

The 2017 Western New York Poker Challenge kicked off today with the first of four flights in the $100,000 guaranteed $300 No Limit Hold'em Event #1.

The flight drew 120 players, putting the event well on its way to surpassing the guarantee, with a second starting flight set for 6 p.m. and two more scheduled on Saturday.

By the time 14 levels of play were through, just 17 survived with Tom Yeghoughian leading the pack.

Seven players bagged six figures in the hotly contested heat. All the surviving players will return to play down to a winner on Sunday and the plot is sure to thicken as the numbers dwindle.

However, Event #1 on the WNYPC schedules continues this evening with the second starting flight at 6 p.m.

Seven More Hands

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

The clock was stopped with ten minutes left in this final level of the flight and a draw was conducted to determine the number of hands left to play.

They drew a seven.

The Bartolotta Blues

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Cameron Bartolotta shoved the button for 40,000-plus with the {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The small blind let go, but Jonathan Jones tanked it out for as good two minutes before calling with the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

Jones hit a queen and although Bartolotta picked up a gutshot on the turn, the river bricked, sending him home early.

Saving Grace

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Shorty shoved 14,200 early and another player came over the top all in. John Grace then decided he'd ship in his last 40,000-plus.

Shorty had the {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and was ready to leave when he saw one opponent's {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and Grace's {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop was good one for grace, but the {6-Clubs} turn saved Shorty.

The {9-Spades} river made sure shorty took the main, but Grace got a sizable side pot and is now looking to bag big.

Playing Hooky

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Gail Bates
Gail Bates

A man who shall remain nameless for now has moved into the chip lead.

This well known local player is playing hooky from work and asked not to be named in the blog after busting Gail Bates moments ago.

Bates emptied the clip after making the second nut flush. Unfortunately for her, Playing Hooky had the nuts.

JJ Living Large

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Twenty minutes ago Jonathan Jones was all in and in trouble.

He'd flopped top two against a flush and needed help to stay alive. Jones filled up on the river and was back in the thick of it.

Then moments ago, he was seen all in again for some 35,000 with 50,000 in the pot, heads up with Colin Reid on a {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} board.

Reid folded, allowing Jones to move up to a spot just below the big stacks.
