The 2017 Western New York Poker Challenge kicked off today with the first of four flights in the $100,000 guaranteed $300 No Limit Hold'em Event #1.

The flight drew 120 players, putting the event well on its way to surpassing the guarantee, with a second starting flight set for 6 p.m. and two more scheduled on Saturday.

By the time 14 levels of play were through, just 17 survived with Tom Yeghoughian leading the pack.

Seven players bagged six figures in the hotly contested heat. All the surviving players will return to play down to a winner on Sunday and the plot is sure to thicken as the numbers dwindle.

However, Event #1 on the WNYPC schedules continues this evening with the second starting flight at 6 p.m.
