Day 1a of the 2018 Western New York Poker Challenge is in the books with 20 of 116 entries moving on to Day 2. Jason Eisele bagged the top stack after 15 40-minute levels ending the night with 423,300.

Eisele took the chip lead just before dinner and continued to add to his stack as the night grew on. Eisele is fresh off a WPTDeepstacks Maryland Main Event win just a few weeks back where he banked $108,921.

Joining Eisele at the top of the counts are Dave Grana (353,000), Budwey Salhab (322,000), Chris Meyers (294,200), and [Removed:602] (279,000).

Some of the players requiring another bullet to keep their Main Event run alive include 2017 WNYPC Main Event champion, Guy Klass, and runner-up, Peter Beshay, along with John Brock, Mark Roberts, Chris Babula, Michelle Caldwell, and David Battaglia.

Players will have another shot to qualify for Day 2 on Saturday morning when Day 1b action kicks off at 11 AM. Late registration will remain open until the end of the dinner break following Level 10.

Final Level of the Night

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

The final level of the night is underway. Unless the field gets narrowed down to 14 players remaining, with 10 minutes left on the level, the clock will be paused and a draw for how many more hands each table will play will be done. The players will then bag their chips and return for Day 2 on Sunday.

Meyers Fires the River

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Chris Meyers opened to 5,500 from early position, [Removed:602] three-bet to 16,000 from late position, Blake Napierala made the call on the button and Meyers flatted. The flop fanned out {6-Spades}{10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and Meyers check-called a bet of 21,000 from [Removed:603] with Napierala folding.

The {7-Clubs} landed on the turn and both players checked to see the {7-Diamonds} hit the river. Meyers bet 48,500 and after a short time in the tank, [Removed:603] let it go.
