Leblanc Elimination Concludes Day 1a

Level 14 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Simon Solomon
Simon Solomon

Remy Leblanc open-jammed for 55,000 from under the gun and Ahmed Karrim called in the cutoff. Simon Solomon then put his last 56,000 in from the big blind and Karrim added the single chip to put two players at risk.

Remy Leblanc: 77 All in
Simon Solomon: AA All in
Ahmed Karrim: AJ

The Q105 flop gave Karrim a gutshot and the 9 turn added further outs to potentially knock out two players. He hit a king on the river, but it was the K to give Solomon a flush for the triple up. Leblanc was eliminated and that reduced the field to the last 20 players who will now bag and tag the chips for the night.

Devid Berlin
Devid Berlin

Devid Berlin lost a portion of his shorter stack with ace-queen suited against Gareth Fourie, who rivered the bottom end of the straight and almost didn't notice it.

Berlin was then all-in for a severe short stack of 34,000 with 109 against the 99 of Jaron Kavnat.

The board came AJ623 and Berlin bowed out two spots away from reaching Day 2.

Two to the Finish on Day 1a

Level 14 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Jaron Kavnat raised to 11,000 and Wessel Conradie called in the small blind. Justin Cohen pushed all-in for 42,000 from the big blind and Kavnat called, Conradie folded.

Jaron Kavnat: A10

"I am in big trouble," Cohen had declared Cohen before the cards were turned over.

Cohen was very much live but failed to connect on the J64210 board to bow out in 23rd place.

Young Eliminated by Andritz

Level 14 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Ben Young jammed a short stack with the Q10 and was called by Adrian Andritz in the small blind who had the A6, Jacobus de Nysschen let go from the big blind.

The K22J7 board missed both players and the ace was good enough to knock out Young.

Cohen Bleeds Off Chips

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Justin Cohen
Justin Cohen

Just before the blinds went up, Justin Cohen limped in and Gareth Fourie did so from the cutoff. Jaron Kavnat on the button raised to 12,000 and earned two calls. The Q44 flop was checked to Fourie and he bet 5,000, only Cohen called with a shorter stack behind.

That led them to the 8 turn on which Cohen check-called for another 5,000.

On the 3 river, Cohen checked and Fourie now bet 10,000. The curiosity caught Cohen, as he sighed and almost silently let out an "fuck ... I am bleeding off my chips". He asked Fourie if he had a four or queen, to which the big stack replied "honestly ... no, I swear".

Cohen called to get shown 88 for a turned full house, exposed his 66 and plummeted to only a handful of big blinds.

Van Huyssteen Busts; Dean Thrives Further

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Braam Van Huyssteen

Justin Cohen value-bet a queen-high river for 20,000 and was called by Christopher Dean to declare "I have a queen" before Dean replied "so do I", exposing the AQ.

"That's bad," Cohen chimed in as he flashed the QJ before the pot was shipped to the other side of the table.

At the same time one table over, the flop showed 953 and Braam van Huyssteen bet for 12,000 out of the small blind to get called by Eban Lottering in late position. Van Huyssteen used a time bank on the 8 turn before he jammed for a short stack and Lottering instantly tossed in calling chips.

Eban Lottering: 55

Van Huyssteen needed an eight or nine but the A river ended his run shy of making Day 2. Fellow The Hendon Mob Challenge finalist Renier Britz followed suit moments later to bring the field down to the last 24 contenders.

Break With 28 Remaining

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Patrice Ah-Nien
Patrice Ah-Nien

Only 28 players still have chips at their disposal and they have been sent on a scheduled 15-minute break, during which the T-500 chips will be raced off.

Patrice Ah-Nien bowed out with a severe short stack according to Ahmed Karrim, who scored the knockout with jack-ten versus ace-king.

In the last hand before the break, Max Deveson sent a player from Mozambique to the rail after he raised from under the gun with KQ and called a short stack shove versus QJ. The board ran out 4328K and that reduced the field further.

Persent Among the Recent Casualties

Level 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Bradley Sweetman was nowhere to be found anymore while Stefan Bittger had chipped up on his former table. Bittger then took on Dylan Wilkerson, who bet the KQJ flop for 9,000 and received a call.

Wilkerson used a time bank on the 6 turn to then bet 45,000 and Bittger folded.

After the hand was over, Jon Persent walked out of the tournament area but not without mentioning that he had busted.

"I played six hands in a row, all of them premiums and lost four. I guess, I got a little impatient. In the last hand, Chris opened and received two callers. I jammed pocket sevens and he had pocket jacks".

Chris in this case was Christopher Dean, who then also knocked out Rudalf Frick shortly after.

Christopher Dean had lost a larger portion of his stack but made up for it when he sent Jedd Kossew to the rail.

Following a Kossew open to 7,000, Dean three-bet to 20,000 and Kossew called to check the 632 flop. Dean bet 40,000 and instantly called the shove by Kossew.
