Level 24 : Blinds 30,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Matthew Whitelaw
Matthew Whitelaw

Matthew Whitelaw arrived on the outer table with a shorter stack and proceeded to move all-in three times. He then took on Divan Le Roux and made a move by shoving the 855 flop out of the blinds. Le Roux called and was ahead.

Matthew Whitelaw: J10 All in
Divan Le Roux: KJ

The 10 turn improved Le Roux to a flush and Whitelaw now needed a five or ten to avoid elimination. Instead, the 2 river brought another spade and Whitelaw exited in 13th place for ZAR 81,855.

"Why did you do that?" a befuddled Nic Ioannoy asked and Whitelaw replied "I wanted to steal".

Darren Kramer Eliminated in 16th Place (ZAR 68,840); Ahmed Karrim Eliminated in 15th Place (ZAR 81,855)

Level 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Darren Kramer
Darren Kramer

Hennie Appel raised to 100,000 and then faced the shove by Ahmed Karrim, who counted out his 765,000 to the dot. It folded to Darren Kramer in the small blind and he used multiple time banks before he declared all-in.

Once it was on Appel, he asked for a count and the all-in for Kramer was exactly 760,000, one chip short of Karim. Three time banks later, Appel called to create a three-way all-in.

Darren Kramer: 1010 All in
Hennie Appel: AK

The dramatic roller coaster that was to follow gathered a small rail around the outer table. The K86 flop pulled Karrim and Appel into the lead. Kramer then improved to a set with the 10 turn but the Q on the river gave Appel the nut flush for the double knockout.

Since Kramer was covered by a single chip, he took 16th place for ZRA 68,840 and Karrim finished in 15th place for ZAR 81,855.

Hennie Appel raised to 100,000 in middle position and Muzamil Gothey then jammed for the 265,000 he had behind one seat over on the other side of the dealer. All players behind folded and Appel quickly called.

Muzamil Gothey: QJ All in
Hennie Appel: AQ

The K43 flop left Gothey on thin ice, and the 2 turn brought no help. Neither did the 6 river, as Gothey departed in 17th place for ZAR 68,840.

Level 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Cliton Taliwanth

The camera crew switched back to the feature table on which a large pot was brewing between Colin Horgan on the button and Cliton Taliwanth in the big blind.

Both had a piece of the 108725 board and Taliwanth with the A8 had around 410,000 behind when Horgan jammed into him via third barrel with the A10 for top pair and top kicker with the chips seemingly having gone in after the river only with three streets of betting.

Taliwanth burned through three time banks and eventually called it off to get shown the bad news, as he was sent to the payout desk.

Harold Brooks pushed a short stack from the button and Imran Bhojani did so from the small blind, both of which were called by Rohan Conradie in the big blind.

Harold Brooks: A3 All in
Imran Bhojani: KJ All in
Rohan Conradie: QQ

The 107228 board kept pocket queens in the lead for both shorter stacks to bust. Brooks and Bhojani receive ZAR 58,045 each and the last 18 players will now balance to the final two tables. Coincidentally, these two casualties have also won an SPT Main Event this year but came up short of a second title in 2024.

Jean Souprayenmestry jammed a micro stack of 70,000 with A9 and Nic Ioannoy called from the big blind with the 32. The AK8105 board kept the French player in contention.

Joey Weissman then jammed a shorter stack with A9 and Ioannoy called in the small blind with KQ.

The K10425 board provided a king on the turn and Weissman bowed out in 21st place for ZAR 58,045.

Over on the outer tables, Okkie Fourie was all-in for only 210,000 from the cutoff and Colin Horgan looked him up in the small blind.

Okkie Fourie: A8 All in
Colin Horgan: A9

"You have a lot of outs, this is very likely to chop," Horgan told Fourie, who had already leaped out of his chair.

However, the KK526 board made sure that the kicker played and Fourie bowed out in 22nd place for ZAR 48,580.

Imran Bhojani raised to 85,000 from an early position with the A9 with 15 big blinds behind. Alvin Pillay then jammed for 440,l000 and Ahmed Karrim called, everyone else including Bhojani folded.

Ahmed Karrim: 1010

Pillay had 43% versus 57% but the 876JQ board provided no help to send Pillay out in 23rd place.

Divan Le Roux raised to 60,000 in the hijack and Hennie Appel called in the next seat. Rudalf Frick then pushed all-in for 335,000 on the button and Le Roux asked for a count, folded. Appel snap-called and Frick sighed when he spotted the rockets on the other side of the table.

Rudalf Frick: AQ All in
Hennie Appel: AA

The 754QK board changed nothing whatsoever and Frick had to settle for 24th place, earning ZAR 48,580 for his efforts.
