Second Break of Day 1a Underway

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

A field of 100 entries has been culled down to the last 76 thus far upon completion of level five. All those with chips at their disposal have been sent on a scheduled 15-minute break.

In the meanwhile, the ZAR 50,000 High Roller has reached level ten with 81 entries and 34 players remaining. The late registration will close at the end of the current level in fewer than half an hour.

Frick and Ah-Nien Rising

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

On a multi-way flop of A75 with around 8,500 in the middle, the action checked to Patrice Ah-Nien and he bet 5,000. One opponent after the other folded and the Time Square runner-up from earlier this year finally climbed back above the starting stack.

Also on the rise is Rudalf Frick. He needed two barrels against Benji Berman, who defended the big blind and check-called once for 1,500 on the 632 flop before check-folding the 10 turn to a bet of 5,000.

Bloom Takes From Berman

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Sean Bloom
Sean Bloom

Clive Berman had run up a massive stack over on table 10 and that was dented somewhat when he took on Sean Bloom. Berman opened to 1,700 and received one caller on the button. Bloom three-bet to 7,500 and Berman was the only caller.

After the 1075 flop, Bloom's bet of 4,000 was called before he bet the Q turn for 16,500. This time, Berman let go.

Some of the Day 1a Casualties and New Entries

Rosie is Out ... Or Not?

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

A new player arrived on table 11 and started playing. Monica Rosie then got it in against them with QQ versus 1010 and the 986210 but then some table chat broke out in which it came to light that the player was supposed to be in the Freeroll satellite instead.

He even suggested to pay the ZAR 15,000 entry fee on the spot, but that's obviously not going to happen. Sheldon Grove arrived at the table for his re-entry, where he had been knocked out before, to take Rosie's seemingly vacated seat. It still took a while to figure out everything and Rosie got her chips back while the other player headed to his seat in the satellite.

As for Grove ... he is back on the table where he busted the first time.

Gossard Eliminated by Steenkamp

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Bernard Gossard had entered not long ago but never got anything running over on table 10 to drop to a short stack. He eventually got it in preflop against Dirk Steenkamp and saw his 44 dominated by JJ.

There was no escape on the 922A6 board and Steenkamp scored the knockout.

Horgan Wins With "A Set of Bullshit"

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Colin Horgan
Colin Horgan

Panayiotis Giannakopoulos limped in and called a raise to 1,800 by Colin Horgan in the big blind. On the KJ7 flop, both players checked and Giannakopoulos bet the A turn for 2,000 to earn a call. He bet again the J river for 5,000 and Horgan then pulled the trigger with a large raise.

"Set? Giannakopoulos asked and shortly after said "a set of bullshit" before he folded. Horgan grinned and flashed his cards, the KJ for a full house.

"I only show to get some folds later," Horgan grinned and added "I get very aggro at times".
