Huawei Sun claimed a large pot with sheer aggression when he bet the river of a K♦4♥2♥3♠3♦ board for 17,000 into more than 20,000. His opponent tanked and nearly used a time bank extension before sending the cards to the muck. That pot boosted Sun to become one of the early chip leaders.
On the river of a 9♠5♠3♦K♣4♣ board, Edgar Antezana got out of the way with Q♣Q♦ when facing a large raise and a reraise by Russel Wheatley. The player in between them mucked the 6♥4♠ and Antezana was somewhat perplexed. "Why do you bet so big?" he asked and his opponent replied "I had a busted straight draw".
Shortly after, there was an open raise to 600 and Antezana used two chips, however, it was the wrong ones as he made it 5,500 to go with an obvious miss-click. His opponent called and check-folded the 9♥8♥8♦ flop when Antezana bet 10,000.
Robert Cowley made it 1,200 to go preflop and received two callers to a flop of 5♣3♣2♣ on which he bet 1,200 when checked to. Only one opponent called and checked again the J♠ on the turn. Cowley bet 2,500 and took down the pot.
In a single-raised pot to the A♦9♥2♥ flop, Gavin Sardini checked and Aidan Jacobs bet 500 only to get check-raised to 1,500. That won the pot without resistance for Sardini to win the pot.
Joey Weissman was the chip leader for the final table of the Super High Roller two days ago and finished in third place. He will have the opportunity to do even better this time in the ZAR 50,000 High Roller ($2,745) as he leads the way by some margin for the nine-handed final table.
Weissman enters the final table with a staggering 124 big blinds, well ahead of Mario Fata with 79 big blinds. Gilbert Tin Fook is the only other non South African player in the field and brings up the bottom of the leaderboard with a mountain to climb.
