Russel Wheatley was all-in for 128,000 with the K♦Q♦ and needed help, as Darren Kramer looked him up with the A♥Q♠.
On the K♥8♥2♦ flop, Wheatley took the lead and Kramer let out a brief "fuck man". The 5♥ turn gave Kramer a lot more outs but the 4♠ river was not among them, as Wheatley doubled once again to continue his cinderalla story.
"I needed that double up, now we are square," Wheatley told Kramer.
Saurabh Gulati was all-in with A♠10♥ against the 7♣6♣ of Dhinesh Soopramanien and had many outs to dodge affter the J♣9♠5♣ flop. The J♥ turn and 5♥ river kept Gulati in the mix.
And the next all-in showdown one table over brought no seat open either, as Rajeev Poonhath scored a very healthy double off Stephen Courtney to change the tides once more. There are still 22 players left and 19 of them will advance.
Alvin Pillay had lost more than half of his stack throughout many pots and limped from under the gun, Rajeev Poonhath did so from the small blind and Russel Wheatley checked in the big blind. On the A♣9♣9♦ flop, only Pillay check-called a bet of 10,000 by Pillay.
They checked down the Q♥ turn and 5♣ river for Pillay to win the pot with the A♦7♥.
With 43,000 in the middle to the 9♦7♥2♦8♣ turn, Leonard Dormehl bet 25,000 from under the gun and Russel Wheatley raised to 50,000. Dormehl moved all-in for 124,000 and Wheatley reluctantly folded, exposing the 10♠ in the process.
Jedd Kossew was all-in for 127,000 before the flop against Colin Horgan and it was the most classic of flips.
Jedd Kossew: Q♥Q♦
Colin Horgan: A♦K♦
"Ace please," Horgan demanded but got the king instead on the K♥7♠4♥ flop. The 9♥ turn gave a sweat with the flush, but instead, Kossew spiked the Q♣ on the river to double.
Horgan then three-bet Terry Brookes to 40,000 who called. On the K♦10♣5♥ flop, Brookes checked from the hijack, Horgan bet 30,000 on the button and Brookes called. The 9♠ turn came with a check-fold.
Horgan also jammed into Teren Ramnundlall on the Q♥6♣5♣ flop, got the fold and flashed 8♣7♦ to win most chips back from the previous setback.
Jaryd Jardien raised to 15,000 from the hijack and Rayhaan Adam three-bet to 36,000 from the next seat. Gilbert Tin Fook called on the button, Jardien came along and checked the 8♠6♠5♥ flop. Adam jammed for around 100,000 and was snapped off by Tin Fook, while Jardien folded.
Rayhaan Adam: A♦Q♣
Gilbert Tin Fook: A♠K♠
Adam sighed, said "well done" and was in very rough shape. The 5♠ turn left him drawing dead to make the 10♥ river a formality.
Jardien made up for the lost chips right after by taking a chunk out of Saurabh Gulati's stack.
Leonard Dormehl limped in from under the gun and Joey Weissman raised to 23,000 from the small blind for Dormehl to call. On the Q♠8♠7♣ flop, Weissman continued for 35,000 and Dormehl used one time bank before pushing all-in for what appeared to be around 180,000.
Weissman called and had the best of it.
Leonard Dormehl: J♦10♦
Joey Weissman: A♥Q♣
The 6♦ turn and Q♥ river were blanks and Dormehl crashed out in 21st place, while Weissman soared to a top three stack for tonight.
Before the level then ended, Giovanni Zanette scored a full double through Jedd Kossew. He "got tired of folding" and flushed out against a set of queens to send Kossew back to the drawing board.
Only 20 players remain and they have been sent on a short break, during which some of the T-1,000 chips will be coloured up ahead of Day 2. Only one further elimination is required for tonight, while Day 1b is certain to conclude at the end of the next level.
In the first hand coming back from the break, Jedd Kossew jammed first to act for around 110,000. He was looked up by Colin Horgan via reshove, while Giovanni Zanette was hoping for some aces in the big blind. He glanced at the cards, sighed and even used one of the time banks while saying "why are you doing this to me?" before he folded.
Jedd Kossew: A♣10♣
Colin Horgan: A♥K♠
The board ran out 6♠2♣2♥7♥9♠ and the kicker played to deny Kossew a berth on Day 2 for now.
Over on table 14, Saurabh Gulati got his short stack in after the Td4c3c] flop and Jaryd Jardien called.
Saurabh Gulati: K♦10♥
Jaryd Jardien: J♦10♣
The A♥ turn and 6♠ river changed nothing, Gulati doubled and fist-pumped for a second.
Last but not least, Russel Wheatley and Alvin Pillay had multi-way action with a flop bet to the K♦Q♠9♥7♦A♣ river. Wheatley pushed all-in and Pillay specifically said he knew that Wheatley "has nothing" to then fold the J♣J♥. And guess what ... Wheatley showed the 8♠5♠ for eight-high and a missed gutshot.
That's a wrap for tonight, full counts and the recap are to follow!
