Okkie Fourie bet the Q♦9♣4♣2♥ turn for 3,000 and Gareth Kalil called. They both checked the 4♠ on the river and Fourie showed his 10♥10♠ for tens and fours. Kalil nodded and mucked his own 8♣8♥.
On the tail end of a J♦10♥9♦9♠K♥ board, Gavin Sardini checked and Brett Toker bet 8,000. Once Sardini went into the tank, Toker asked "do you have a nine?".
No reply came but Sardini paid off the bet to get shown the A♦Q♥ for broadway by Toker.
Alan Jung was all-in for 20,800 on the K♠J♥5♣Q♦ turn and tabled the K♣J♦ for two pair. Jubal Chetty had that beat for the time being with A♥10♣ but the K♥ river came to the rescue of Jung.
Soon after, Jung played another large pot when he got a shove through to further rise on the leaderboard.
Marko Nortje had nearly doubled his stack after the recent re-entry only to then lose most of it. The remainder went in with the Q♦7♦ and he was looked up by Gerrit van der Spoel with the 2♥2♣.
On a board of A♦7♠2♦8♦8♠, the roller coaster ride gave Nortje a flush but van der Spoel paired up to a full house.
The field has reached 100 entries for Day 1d and among those to jump in was Jarred Solomon, second on the South African all-time money list. He was on the final table in this event in March as well and is widely considered one of the best player in the country.
There are flipout tables happening where ten seats with a buy-in of ZAR1,500 award one Main Event entry. Several players in the field are purchasing the seats and among them was also Wesley Blom. It was just announced that he had won another of the flips to secure the seat and that very moment he was all-in for 6,400.
Joe Chan in the cutoff and Rajeev Poonhath on the button called, then checked to the A♦K♠7♥4♣8♣ river. Chan bet 5,000 and Poonhath folded.
Blom exposed the J♦5♦ and Chan had him beat with the 4♠4♥.
"Bring me that seat," Blom joked and re-entered shortly after.
