Vilela Takes From Dugast

Level 2 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

On the river of a A9366 board, Lory Dugast checked and then faced a bet of 10,000 by Jamie Vilela. That was for more than two thirds of the pot and Dugast eventually called. Vilela tabled the A9 for aces and nines, Dugast mucked what appeared to be ace-queen.

Kirstein Wins Multi-Way Pot

Level 1 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Three ways to the Q109 flop, Alvin Pillay in the big blind and Greg Mokgoatlheng checked. Sunelle Kirstein bet 600 on the button and both opponents called. Only Pillay then check-called the 2 turn when Kirstein bet another 1,500. The 9 river was checked and Pillay tabled the 108, which Kirstein had beaten holding the Q3.

Throughout two tournament days, the ZAR 50,000 High Roller has seen a field of 72 entries cut down to the nine-handed final table and the UK's James Rann was the unfortunate bubble finisher last night after which the remaining players bagged up their chips.

Rayhaan Adam leads the way but he is closely followed by one of the two non South-African players in the field in Sascha Manns. The other contender to try and pry away the trophy from home soil is Scotsman Dean Hutchison, who is among the shorter stacks.

New Entries on Day 1b

Level 1 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

The field is now up to 28 entries with one casualty so far.

Dugast Flushes Müller

Level 1 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Cliton Taliwanth raised to 800 and received no fewer than five callers after which Terry Brookes joked "you raise the first three hands, that's the respect you get". The A107 flop was checked all the way to the 6 turn on which Alexandra Müller bet 2,000 from the small blind, only Lory Dugast called.

On the 7 river, Dugast called another 5,000 and was shown AK to claim the pot with his 95 for a flush.

Tanith Rothman
Tanith Rothman

Tanith Rothman raised to 800 and was called by Reza De Bruyns. Nawal Jaftha then three-bet to 1,600 and Franco Da Matta called in the big blind. Rothman four-bet to 7,800 to force out De Bruyns, while Jaftha then five-bet to 27,600. Da Matta folded and Rothman called to check the K62 flop. She then check-called for 25,000 and opted to check the Q on the turn.

Jaftha moved all-in and Rothman sighed for a second, but called and said "I have to, do you have kings?"

Tanith Rothman: QQ
Nawal Jaftha: AA

The river was the 7 and Rothman doubled to leave Jaftha short. "Sorry Noelle," she told her opponent who snapped a picture of the hand.

Timid Start for Now

Level 1 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Sunelle Kirstein raised to 600 and was called by both players in the blinds. The action checked on the K84 flop and 3 turn. Nawaal Jaftha bet the A river for 1,000 and Siva Naidoo as well as Kirstein both folded.

Barely any major pots have been played so far in the opening minutes but that may change with the arrival of more new entries.
