Tilston Busts Shak With Turned Straight

Level 2 : 500/1,000, 1,500 ante
Dan Shak
Dan Shak

Dan Shak raised in the first position and found a customer in Keith Tilston, who flatted on the button. Shak continued for 5,000 on the {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} flop and Tilston called again.

The {J-Hearts} landed on the turn and Shak fired the second barrel, making it 15,000. Tilston woke up with a raise to 55,000 and Shak didn't take much time before announcing he was all-in for about 250,000. Tilston double-checked his hand and called.

Dan Shak: {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Keith Tilston: {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Tilston turned the nuts but Shak could still hope for a queen or a jack to improve to a full house. The river was, however, the {K-Hearts} and the dealer verified that Tilston had his opponent covered.

Shak was sent to the rail while on the feature table, Andreas Eiler lost his tournament life to Fedor Holz who now has 773,000.

Blieden Doubles Through Greenberg

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Dennis Blieden
Dennis Blieden

Larry Greenberg opened the button to 2,500 and earned a call from Kathy Lehne before Dennis Blieden pumped the price to 8,500 out of the big blind. Both of his rivals called.

Blieden continued for 8,000 on the {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} flop, getting two calls once again.

The {A-Hearts} turn was checked around but the {J-Hearts} river brought fireworks. In a quick fashion, Lehne checked and Blieden moved all-in for 79,500. Greenberg snap-called, allowing Lehne to release her hand.

Blieden showed {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}. "Wow, that's a very nice hand," said Greenberg before sending his cards to the dealer, face down.

Nobody requested a showdown but Blieden was trying to investigate. "Did you have a queen, Larry?" No response followed and Blieden started laughing. "Oooh, you had a jack!"

"Funny Hand"

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Fedor Holz opened cutoff to 2,500 and Rainer Kempe called in the small blind. Daniel Negreanu made it 15,000 in the big and only Kempe continued. On the {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop, Kempe bet out 18,000 and Negreanu called. On the {2-Clubs} turn, Kempe used a time extension and then bet 45,000. "Kid Poker" stuck around again and both players checked the {5-Diamonds}.

Kempe showed {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} having stumbled into a set, but Negreanu's {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} was better.

"Funny hand," Negreanu said with a laugh.

Katz Admits a Nitty Check

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Under the gun, Andrew Lichtenberger made it 2,500 to go. HIs neighbour Cary Katz flatted before small blind Markus Durnegger squeezed to 13,500. Lichtenberger folded but Katz stuck around to see the {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{A-Spades} flop.

Both players checked and Durneger checked again when the {2-Spades} hit the turn. This time Katz wasn't willing to let the board roll for free and bet out 18,000. Durnegger called.

The {10-Hearts} river brought yet another check from Durnegger and Katz paused for a moment: "Alright, very nitty," Katz said while turning up his {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for the win.

Flush for Burns

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Timofey Kuznetsov opened to 3,000 from under the gun and Kahle Burns called in the big blind.

The flop landed {2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Burns checked to Kuznetsov who bet 4,500. Burns called, and then checked the {9-Diamonds} on the turn.

Kuznetsov bet 11,000 and Burns called, before both players checked the {2-Hearts} on the river.

Burns tabled his {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flush, and Kuznetsov mucked.

Kurganov Eliminates Esfandiari

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

Three players saw a {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{q-Clubs} flop with about 40,000 in the middle. Igor Kurganov bet 19,000 from the button and Antonio Esfandiari made it 53,000 from under the gun. That pushed the third player out, and Kurganov put in a call.

On the {a-Diamonds} turn, things slowed down, at least in terms of tempo. Esfandiari used a time extension and counted down his stack before betting 68,500. Kurganov again called, using his own extension in the process. On the {j-Clubs} river, Esfandiari shoved for about 115,000 and Kurganov quickly called.

"Boat?" Esfandiari asked.

Kurganov nodded and showed {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Esfandiari mucked his {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and wished everyone good luck.

"Good start," Kurganov's neighbor said.

"There's no better river for me in the deck," he responded.
