Action of the Day

The day started with a packed room as many players were eager to take advantage of their final chance to make it to Day 2 of the UKPC Main Event. The day started well for Lee French who managed to river a set of queens against Christopher Johnson's ace-queen. French was able to ride along with the early momentum to secure a bag for Day 2.

Midway through the day late registration closed and the final prize pool was announced. The tournament managed to surpass the £500,000 guarantee as a total of 1,148 entrants generated a prize pool of £556,780 including a first-place prize of £95,000.

Ashley Harrison managed to eliminate Brandon Sheils before late registration closed as Sheils called for his tournament life with two pair against Harrison's flush. Sheild reentered but didn't manage to make it to the end of the day.

Harrison was one of the biggest stacks in the room but lost a significant part of his stack when he tried to bluff Chris Da Silva. It was ill-timed by Harrison as Da Silva called down with aces to double up through Harrison.

Action slowed as the bubble approached but eventually burst to end the day. Jonathan Hanley would be the unlucky bubble boy as his ace-eight couldn't defeat Ashley Timms's pocket nines. Timms flopped a set to ensure Hanley's elimination as the day's proceedings came to a close.

Jonathan Hanley: {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Ashley Timms: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Hanley only had an overcard to Timms pocket pair. However Hanley had a nightmare flop as it came {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} giving Timms top set. The turn left Hanley dead as it came the {q-Clubs} making him the bubble boy. The river came the {6-Hearts} which ensured the day concluded as the remaining 64 players made Day 2 and the money.

Campell Wins Bizarre Pot

Level 16 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Michael O'Brien raised to 100,000 in the hijack. He was called by Jahmell Campell in the cutoff and Ashley Timms and John Adderley in the blinds.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Spades} and action checked to Campell who bet 75,000. Timms check raised to 260,000 and only Campell called.

The {8-Spades} was the turn and Timms bet 275,000. Campell used a time bank card and called.

The river came the {9-Spades} and the dealer pointed at Campell. Campell moved all in for around 500,000 out of turn. The floor was called and Campell's action would stand if Timms decided to check. Timms mucked his hand as the pot went to Campbell in bizarre fashion.
