Maxwell Young Tops Day 1b Flight of $2M GTD Main Event

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Maxwell Young
Maxwell Young

The second flight of Event 13: $3,000 Main Event $2 Million Guaranteed has now hit the brakes after nine levels here at The Lodge Poker Club in Round Rock, Texas. A total of 44 entry slips were sold on Day 1b, having just 20 of those slips turn into a Day 2 birth by night's end.

When the final buzzer went off it was Maxwell Young sitting in the top spot on the leaderboard. Young had a downfall during the midst of the day but fought his way back, taking his last chip-up from Michael Wang during the last 15-minutes of the night. Wang's ace-eight fell to the kings of Young to be eliminated, and Young went on to bag 226,000 for the Day 1b lead.

Ian Ivers shot up to second on the totem pole during the penultimate hand of his table. Ivers held big slick and was against the pocket jacks of Hunter Cichy. The turned board was clean for Cichy but a rivered deuce gave Ivers the wheel, sending Cichy on his way. Ivers ended the night with 196,000 thanks to that lucky river. Rounding out the top five are Gabriel Andrade (186,500), David Mzareulov (156,000), and Mahesh Rathi (151,000).

The most accomplished player to jump into the field today was Alex Foxen who quickly took an exit upon sitting down. Foxen's second bullet however went much better, ending the night with 144,500. Foxen has over $21 million in live career earnings and is a player that should be on everyone's radar heading into Day 2.

All 20 survivors from this flight will combine with the other five Day 1 flight survivors on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. for Day 2. Blinds will begin at 1,000/2,000 with a 2,000 ante and the levels will increase to 60-minutes in length. A total of ten levels will be played on the second day and all who remain will bag up for Day 3.

The second flight of the main event is now in the books but check out the High Roller that is still running as the PokerNews live reporting team brings the updates.

Hunter Cichy
Hunter Cichy

Hunter Cichy had all of his chips pushed into the pot, totaling around 72,000 and Ian Ivers called during the penultimate hand of their table.

Hunter Cichy: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Ian Ivers: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

The classic flip saw Cichy hold strong on the turned board of {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, but a {2-Clubs} river built a wheel for Ivers, and Cichy was eliminated, dropping the field to just 20.

Maxwell Young opened to 3,200 and Michael Wang moved all in, having around 30,000 and Young called without hesitation.

Michael Wang: {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Maxwell Young: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The flop of {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} gave some hope for Wang but that instantly vanished when the {k-Diamonds} landed. Wang was then drawing dead to the {j-Clubs} river and Young took the lead of Day 1b.

Ball Slows It Down, Koch Catches up

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Collin Ball
Collin Ball

David Tobin had a raise of 3,200 in front of him from under the gun and Collin Ball raised to 8,100 in the hijack. Russell Koch was in the big blind with a decision and in the end, he raised to 16,600. Tobin quickly declined and Ball called.

The dealer fanned out {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Koch continued with a bet of 21,000. A quick moment of thought from Ball ended with a call. A {9-Diamonds} turn peeled off and both checked through to the {j-Hearts} river where Koch checked once more.

Ball announced that he was all-in, and Koch instantly called. Ball turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for a flopped bullet but Koch then revealed {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, giving him a rivered boat to end the night of Ball.

Alex Foxen has just taken a seat here on Day 1b and it took just one hand for him to start throwing some chips around.

Foxen opened from middle position to 900 and Mahesh Rathi called on his direct left. William Jacobson was in the hijack when he three-bet 4,200.

Foxen took a quick moment but ultimately, he elected to make his first hand an exciting one and four-bet, making it 10,500. Rathi ducked out and Jacobson then bumped it up to 27,500.

Foxen quickly folded to the five-bet of Jacobson who pulled in the pot, taking a nice chunk from Foxen on his first hand of the event.
