Doug Polk Leads Final 39 into Day 3 of LCS Main Event with $417,800 Up Top

Level 19 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Doug Polk Leads LCS Main Event into Day 3
Doug Polk Leads LCS Main Event into Day 3

The second day of Event 13: $3,000 Main Event $2 Million Guaranteed has now come to a halt after ten levels of play and the 259 that began have now been shaved down to just 39 here at The Lodge Poker Club in Round Rock, Texas. It is fitting that planted on top of the field is the one and only Doug Polk who put 2,755,000 into his Day 3 bag.

Polk was on a steady climb during the first half of today but really started to heat up after he eliminated Thomas Penza. The queen-high, two-spade, flop saw Penza jam queen-six of spades and Polk called with ace-queen. Polk held to drop Penza and add a nice chunk of chips to his stack.

The steady consistent climb continued into the latter stages where he catapulted in what was the biggest hand of the event so far. Polk check-raised a seven-high flop that showed two spades versus Thong Nguyen who was also one of the biggest stacks in the room. Nguyen elected to shove over a million with king-seven and Polk called, having nine-seven of spades. The board went runner-runner straight for Polk who took a commanding chip lead and Nguyen was eliminated.

Closest behind Polk on the totem pole is Alain Bauer who completely ran over the second half of the day, pulling in pots constantly en route to ending the day with 1,925,000. Stephen Song ran up a stack with his usual aggressive style early in the day and really broke through when he check-raised a flush against Bin Weng who paid him off. Song took that pot and cruised his way through the rest of the night, ending third with 1,895,000 chips.

Some other heavy-hitters made great strides on the second day, including Event 10: $5,000 High Roller runner-up Farid Jattin who will be sitting in fourth place to begin Day 3. Nir Cohen rounds out the top five after he doubled through Andreas Ioakimides who pushed a missed flush draw, only for Cohen to snap with top two. Cohen bagged 1,440,000 and has a shot at beating his personal best cash of $110,955 if he places in the top four.

The day started with 259 of the original 617 entries and it was not until after the dinner break that the bubble started to loom. On Level 17 Badr Imejjane found himself with a pair of kings and pushed his stack into the middle. Directly on his left was Thong Nguyen who obliged with a pair of aces. Imejjane failed to crack the bullets and the rest of the field was then in the money, dubbing Imejjane the official bubble boy of this event.

A flurry of eliminations then saw many fall to the wayside. Some players that cashed but failed to find a bag include Elliot Smith (42nd - $8,000), Brian Green (48th - $7,400), Andrew Neeme (52nd - $7,400), Guilebaldo Flores (62nd - $7,000), and Brett Murray (70th - $6,600).

Those six will return for a live-streamed final table on Tuesday, May 24, at 2 p.m. to crown a champion who will be taking home $417,800 for their victory.

The live stream will be on a 30-minute delay with the PokerNews reporting team here to bring all the big hands and eliminations right up until the last hand has been dealt.

Polk Gets There to Win Biggest Pot of the Main Event Thus Far

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Doug Polk raised from the hijack to 25,000, Thong Nguyen called in the hijack and the big blind came along also.

The flop came {3-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. It checked to Nguyen who bet 107,000, the big blind folded and Polk check-raised to 375,000. Nguyen then three-bet piled for over a million and Polk called.

Thong Nguyen: {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Doug Polk: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}

It was for the the largest pot of the tournament thus far as two of the top five stacks in the room were colliding in spectacular fashion. Polk had the flush draw looking to take scoop it from the top pair of Nguyen.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} to add outs for Polk and the river brought those new outs home as the {8-Hearts} slid in to connect the straight to bust Nguyen and give Polk the massive chip lead of the Main Event.

Nguyen Pops the Bubble

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Badr Imejjane
Badr Imejjane

The hand-for-hand portion of this event lasted just under an hour until the money was reached. Badr Imejjane moved his 401,000 stack into the middle. Directly on his left was Thong Nguyen who called and every player in the room locked their attention on the bubble showdown.

Badr Imejjane: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Thong Nguyen: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

An absolute cooler saw Nguyen on top with his bullets and the {8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop brought little excitement for Imejjane. The {2-Clubs} turn and {10-Clubs} river cemented it for Nguyen.

Imejjane was dubbed the bubble boy of the Main Event and the rest of the field has now hit the money.

Sarmiento Spikes Jack to Survive on Bubble

Steven Sarmiento
Steven Sarmiento

Steven Sarmiento moved all in from middle position for 143,000. Alex Keating re-shoved from the button which folded out the blinds.
The players waited for a few minutes until every other hand was completed to table their hands.

Steven Sarmiento: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Alex Keating: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Sarmiento had started the day third and chips and was in mortal peril of being the bubble boy. The flop came {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} the turn was what Sarmiento was praying to see as the {j-Spades} came off but there was a spade draw now for Keating. The river was the {5-Diamonds} to secure the survival for Sarmiento and keep the bubble in tact.

Song Reaches the Milly Mark

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Stephen Song
Stephen Song

As told by someone at the table, the action was on a {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{a-Clubs} board when Stephen Song checked his action. Bin Weng bet 115,000 and Song check-raised for all of it.

Weng took a brief moment but called off is 300,000 that he had behind, putting himself all in. Weng tabled {a-}{2-} without a spade, which was two spades less than the {q-Spades}{9-Spades} that Song held.

Song pulled in the pot and now sits above a million whole Weng was sent home.

Bauer Bossing

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Alain Bauer
Alain Bauer

Action was picked up on the river mid tank as the board read {10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{j-Clubs}. The pot had a large amount of about 175,000 in the middle. On the button Alain Bauer had forced Aaron McEvoy, who was in the big blind, to make a decision for his tournament life with about 160,000 behind.

McEvoy shuffled his chips slowly and studied the hand in his head. Bauer sat back with his arms crossed waiting for the decision. Eventually, McEvoy folded and Bauer added the pot to his ever-increasing stack as he looks to make another deep run here in the Lodge Champioship Series.

Polk Raises Out Brint to Go to Chip Lead

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Action was picked up on the flop as Doug Polk bet 30,000 from the hijack. Raymond Brink called in middle position.

The turn was the {9-Hearts}. Brink changed up the flow and led for 30,000. Polk took his time before sliding a big stack forward for a raise to about 120,000. Brink folded after a few moments to send Polk the pot as he is now the chip leader of the tournament barely edging out Thong Nguyen at the moment.

Nguyen added some chips to his own large stack as he bet 80,000 with the board reading {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Charles Alex-Barton folded after a few moments. Nguyen flashed the {a-Diamonds} and stacked his chips.

Elsewhere, John New is also around the million mark and among the biggest stacks in the room.

Foxen Flopped Dead

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

From the small blind Alex Foxen shoved all in over a button raise from Joseph Roh, Badr Imejjane re-shoved for more in the big blind and Roh took some time before he got out of the way.

Alex Foxen: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Badr Imejjane: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

Foxen was at risk in the coin flip scenario. But after the flop it was not such a coin flip as it came {3-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} to flop the nut flush for Imejjane and basically kill Foxen's tournament life barring miracle running queens. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and river the {a-Diamonds} and Foxen's tournament was over.

Polk Busts Penza

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Doug Polk
Doug Polk

Three players saw a flop of {q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}. Thomas Penza had moved all in over a bet of 11,000 from Mark Mendez, and Doug Polk had called. Mendez had to think about it for a while before relenting and folding his hand,

Penza was at risk with the {q-Spades}{6-Spades} top pair and flush draw while Polk had the lead with the better kicker, holding the {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and the river was the {4-Clubs} to stay spade free and eliminate Penza and another chunk of chips to Polk's stack as table 38 was broken shortly after.
