Romer Doubles Through Alexander

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Bill Romer shoved for 10,900 in middle position, and Matt Alexander was the lone caller.

Romer: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Romer's kings stayed best on the {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} board.

Abramowicz Coolers Fellow Blind

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

In a battle of the blinds, the small blind bet 4,000 on a {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} board and was raised by David Abramowicz in the big blind. The small blind shipped it for about 75,000, and Abramowicz called.

Abramowicz: {10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Small blind: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The small blind had flopped trips, but he had work to do to catch Abramowicz's flopped boat. The {9-Hearts} didn't do it, and Abramowicz collected all but his opponent's last 300.

"Unbelievable," a player at the table muttered. "He plays any two cards, and he wins with any two cards."

Lang Turns a Boat

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Mike Lang, pictured booking a chip lead at the end of Day 1b of MSPT Meskwaki.

Big blind Mike Lang bet 7,000 after a {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop, and the button raised all in for 20,500. Tom Hammers, in the small blind, called the shove, and Lang called as well. A {j-Hearts} paired the board and completed a three-flush, and Hammers checked to Lang, who shipped all in. Hammers folded.

Lang: {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Button: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Lang had turned a boat, but he still needed to dodge a king that would make his opponent a bigger boat, as well as an open-ended straight flush draw. The river was a blank, the {8-Diamonds}, and Lang, who finished Day 1b of Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki as the chip leader, finds himself on another big stack.

Johnson Dodges the Queen

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Jim Lawrence bet 5,500 into two opponents with the board reading {9-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{a-Spades}. The button shoved all in for about 60,000, and the big blind, Steve Johnson, moved in as well for 42,550. Lawrence thought for a couple of minutes before mucking.

Johnson: {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Button: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

"Give me a queen," the button said.

"No queen," Johnson said, drawing a deep breath and standing up.

Johnson's wish was granted when a king river gave the button a worthless two pair.
