Kroon's Read on Slonske Proves Dead Wrong

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jay Slonske
Jay Slonske

We happened upon the action with 10,000 or so already in the pot and a flop reading {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon had bet 4,700, and Jay Slonske raised him to 14,700. Not to be outdone, the ever-aggressive Kroon three-bet to 34,700, but Slonske responded by snap-moving all in for 47,500 more. Kroon asked for a count and the table talk began.

"Kings no good?" Kroon asked. Slonske indicated they were not. "How could they not be good? I honestly think you have something dumb like queen-ten."

Kroon put together some chips as he continued to think aloud. "Why would you reraise me with a set?" he asked rhetorically. "I've played worse than this before. Maybe the only hand I beat is a {q-}{10-}." Kroon then tossed in a call.

Kroon: {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Slonske: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Kroon went with his read and called with ace high, and he was in about as bad shape as he could be as Slonske did have the set. The {8-Spades} turn left Kroon drawing dead, and even though the {A-Clubs} river gave him two pair, he sent the majority of his chips over to Slonske.

"I didn't think you'd reraise me," Kroon explained. Slonske then went on to win the next two hands to chip up to 200K.

Watchorn Culled by Anderson's Aces

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Olesya Watchorn
Olesya Watchorn

After an under-the-gun player opened for 2,400, Olesya Watchorn moved all in for her last 14,500. Steve Anderson, who was seated to her direct left, then moved all in over the top for roughly 55,000. Action folded back to the initial raiser, who ditched his cards, and then Watchorn discovered the bad news.

Anderson: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Watchorn: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

"Oh no," Watchorn lamented as she got up out of her chair. She then watched as the dealer put out the flop — {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

"I need a ten," Watchorn pleaded, knowing a ten would give her Broadway. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't in the cards as the {4-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {J-Spades} on the river.

"Sorry," Anderson offered before Watchorn departed.

One for Belland

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Steve Belland
Steve Belland

MSPT regular Steve Belland opened for 3,600 from middle position and received a call from the player in the hijack. The rest of the field folded and it was heads-up action to the {3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop. Belland checked, the hijack bet 4,000, and Belland paused for a moment before making the call.

When the dealer burned and turned the {4-Diamonds}, Belland checked for a second time and his opponent bet 6,000. Belland used two hands to slide all his chips into the pot for an all-in check-raise, and it did the trick as the hijack released his cards.

Koh Takes Over the Chip Lead; Gao and Raghavan Sent to the Rail

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Michael Koh has shot up the chip counts in the last 30 minutes thanks in no small part to a fortunate river card.

We picked up the action on a {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop when a raising war resulted in Koh and another player getting it all in the middle with the latter at risk. Koh held the {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for a flush and gutshot straight draw, which he needed to hit to overcome the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} of his opponent. The {10-Hearts} turn didn't do it, but the {4-Diamonds} river did. Koh raked in the juicy pot and is currently sitting with right around 150,000.

Meanwhile, one-time chip leader Leon Gao has been eliminated from the tournament, as has World Poker Tour Five Diamond champ Ravi Raghavan.

Siemans Runs Smack Dab Into Aces

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Lisa Siemans, one of the few remaining women in the field, shoved her short stack all in holding {a-}{10-} and was unfortunate enough to run into an opponent holding {a-}{a-}. There would be no miracle for Siemans and she would see her MSPT Potawatomi come to an end here in Level 10.
