Johnson on the Brink

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Mark Johnson
Mark Johnson

Mark Johnson's looking for his third Mid-States Poker Tour final table, but he's in rough shape as the end of registration nears. He recently dropped another chunk of his stack on a {4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop, calling a continuation-bet of 3,000. On the {2-Spades} turn, he snap-folded when his opponent put him all in.

Zarlenga Won't Go Away

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Jason Zarlenga called a flop bet and then a barrel of 6,500 on an {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{j-Hearts} board from the button against the small blind. Both players checked the {j-Spades}, and the small blind showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for ace-high. Zarlenga had it beat with {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

At another table, Brian Zekus is up over 32,000 after check-raising an opponent on a {2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} board and getting a fold.

Peroz Goes Backdoor

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

We found Patrick Peroz thinking about calling off for his tournament life on a flop of {10-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. He had bet 7,100 from the button, and his opponent in middle position jammed on on him for his remaining 11,050. Peroz leaned back and verbalized a call.

Peroz: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Opponent: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Peroz needed an ace, but the {j-Hearts} turn opened up another avenue for him with a backdoor flush draw. He hit it on the {q-Hearts} river.

Johnson Busts Mudduluru

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Sai Mudduluru checked from under the gun on a {6-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, and Brodie Johnson bet 3,500 in middle position. Mudduluru shoved for 10,400, and Johnson called.

Johnson: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Mudduluru: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

The dealer brought out an {a-Hearts} turn.

"That'll do it," Mudduluru said.

Hebden Barrels Down, Busts One

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Elliott Hebden
Elliott Hebden

Elliott Hebden bet 1,100 from early position on an {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop and got one call from the player on the button. He fired again for 2,200 on the {9-Spades} turn and was again called. On the {q-Diamonds} river, he put his opponent all in for about 8,500. The player thought only briefly before calling, but Hebden showed he had the goods: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}. His opponent flashed the {k-Hearts} before getting up.

Players are on break for 10 minutes.

It was brought to our attention that Ken Baime is in the building, grinding away at Table 4. Baime took down Mid-States Poker Tour Majestic Star last year, taking down $77,681. He's since scored a couple of smaller cashes on the tour as well as a final table at the WSOPC Main Event in Hammond last October, where he finished ninth for $31,141.
