Dillehay Gets Curl to Fold the Best Hand

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

With around 40,000 already in the pot and a flop of {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, Derek Dillehay moved all in from the cutoff for right around 55,000. MSPT Grand Falls champ Alan Curl was on the button and hit the tank. The talkative Dillehey offered to show Curl his hand if he folded, and he took him up on it but not before showing his own {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}.

Dillehay tabled the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

"If I check he probably goes all in," Dillehay explained.

Time for Another Break

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Level 12 has come and gone, which means it's time for another 10-minute break. When they return, the players will play four more levels before the final starting flight of the MSPT Golden Gates Casino comes to an end.

Gutfreund Gets His Groove Back

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Not long ago David Gutfreund was sitting on a short stack. Well, it seems things have turned around, thanks in no small part to a recent double through Sean Munjal.

It happened when Munjal opened for 3,200 under the gun, Gutfreund called, and two other players came along to see a {2-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. Munjal led out for 7,000, Gutfreund called, and the other players folded before the {3-Hearts} was put out on the turn. Munjal checked, Gutfreund bet 12,600, and Munjal check-raised all in. Gutfreund quickly called off for 36,700 total.

Munjal: {a-}{k-}
Gutfreund: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

Gutfreund flopped a set, and he got paid after the meaningless {A-Spades} was put out on the river.

Lowery Forgets to Flush

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

On a flop of {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, Duma Lowery got his last 30,000 or so all in and was at risk against Stuart Brown.

Brown: {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Lowery: {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Brown was ahead with two pair, but Lowery was drawing live to a flush. The circuit pro was looking for a heart, but neither the {3-Spades} turn nor {Q-Clubs} river delivered.

Not the Way Hassab Expected to Win

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mike Hassab just flagged us down to relate an interesting hand he'd just won.

Hassab explained that he and a short stack got it in preflop, with him holding {a-}{k-} and the latter {10-}{10-}. A race wasn't too special, but the way Hassab ended up winning — without hitting an ace, king or straight — was what made it noteworthy. You see, the board ran out {9-}{9-}{9-}{9-}{x-}, meaning Hassab won with quad nines and an ace kicker.

You don't see that everyday.

Kirby Making the Most of His Reentry

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

After busting his last bullet to Max Chrisp, MSPT Team Pro Matt Kirby reentered and immediately got back on the grind.

Things started out well for the Bemidji, Minnesota native as he just doubled holding {a-}{q-} against an opponent's {8-}{8-}. Kirby is looking to join fellow MSPT Team Pros Matt Alexander and Nick Pupillo on Day 2.
