Nothing Scares Gayton

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Sean Munjal opened for 1,800 from early position and the player in the hijack three-bet to 4,000. Michael Gayton called from the big blind, Munjal came along, and three players saw a flop of {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Gayton wasted little time in sliding out a bet of 22,650, leaving himself a single red T5,000 chip behind. Munjal folded, and the player in the hijack called off for 18,000 or so.

Gayton: {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Gayton took the lead on the flop by pairing his queen, and he held strong as the {2-Hearts} blanked on the turn followed by the {7-Spades} on the river.

Chrisp Amazing Chips

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Max Chrisp, who finished third in this very event one year ago, is sitting with a big stack over in the far corner of the room.

In one recent hand, there was roughly 20,000 in the pot on a {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop. Chrisp fired out 22,000, and his opponent hit the tank before moving all in for what looked to be 45,000. Chrisp snap-called.

Chrisp: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Both players held overpairs to the board, but of course Chrisp's was best. Neither the {9-Spades} turn nor {5-Spades} river changed things, and Chrisp was pushed the juicy pot.

Doing the Ali Shuffle

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Chris Ali
Chris Ali

The under-the-gun player opened for 1,900 and Chris Ali called from middle position. When action reached Nader Wahdan on the button, he simply moved all in for approximately 30,000. The blinds both folded, as did the original raiser, and Ali hit the tank.

"I know what you have," Ali explained.

"No one knows what I have, not the way I play," Wahdan said with a laugh.

"I should go with my gut," Ali responded. It looked as if Ali was going to fold, but all of a sudden he spiked in his stack of 17,600.

Ali: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Wahdan: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

It was a flip, and Ali was looking to hold. He failed to do so on the {2-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop, but fortunately for him he was the only one with a club, which locked him up the hand when the {10-Clubs} peeled off on the turn. The meaningless {J-Spades} was put out on the river, and Ali was shipped the double.

"I knew it was a race," Ali said after the hand. "Did I want to risk 25 big blinds?"
