Cooler Flop Sends Lamphere Out the Door

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Adam Lamphere
Adam Lamphere

Four players each put in 3,500 preflop and saw a flop of {8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Steve Wood was first to act and checked, which prompted Sean Munjal to follow suit. Another player in middle position did the same, and then Adam Lamphere bet 8,000.

Wood immediately tossed in five red T5,000 chips for a raise to 25,000, and both Munjal and the other player got out of the way. Lamphere responded by moving all in for what looked to be 55,000, and Wood snap-called.

Wood: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Lamphere: {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

Lamphere had flopped two pair, but it was rendered moot by Wood's top set. Lamphere needed running diamonds to stay alive, but the {5-Clubs} turn took away any chance of that happening. The meaningless {7-Clubs} was put out on the river for good measure, and then Lamphere made a beeline for the door.

Huge Double for Nguyen

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Cuong Van Nguyen
Cuong Van Nguyen

Cuong Van Nguyen got off to a great start on Day 1c after taking half Tyler Corbett's stack in the very first hand, but his tournament life was just at risk.

We picked up the action on the turn with around 25,000 in the pot and a board reading {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{a-Clubs}. Nguyen had checked, and his opponent bet 10,000 from the hijack. Nguyen check-raised all in for 95,500, and his opponent hit the tank before making the call with the {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flush.

Nguyen rolled over the {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for the nut flush! The {3-Hearts} river was irrelevant, and Nguyen doubled to more than 200K!

No MSPT Player of the Year Points for Hodge in Black Hawk

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Mark Hodge currently sits atop the MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year Leaderboard with 3,540 points, a solid 540 ahead of second place Blake Bohn. Unfortunately for Hodge, he won't be adding any more points here in Black Hawk as he was just eliminated from the tournament with no plan to reenter.

As Hodge told it, local player Nader Wahdan opened for 3,500 under the gun and got five callers, including Hodge with the {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The flop came down {a-}{2-}{4-} with two spades, and Wahdan bet 6,000. Action folded to Hodge, and he raised to 16,000, which was about half his stack.

Wahdan made the call and then shoved all in when a third spade hit the turn. Hodge begrudgingly called off and discovered Wahdan held two spades for a flush. The river failed to help Hodge, and he headed for the exit.

Two-Time WSOP Bracelet Winner in the House

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We just spotted two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner David Warga in the field sitting with a healthy stack of 140,000.

Warga won his first gold bracelet way back in 2002 when he took down Event #1: $500 Casino Employees for $47,300. The next came nine years later when he topped a field of 644 to win the 2010 WSOP Event #27: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low for $208,682.

Now the question remains, can Warga add a MSPT title to his already impressive poker résumé?

Chrisp Eliminates Kirby in Monster Pot

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We noticed MSPT Team Pro Matt Kirby leaving the tournament floor, and a quick check with his former table confirmed that he'd just been eliminated.

The action escaped us, but we do know a series of preflop raises resulted in a short-stacked player getting in for 30,000, Kirby for 128,000, and Chrisp putting both at risk.

Chrisp: {a-}{a-}
Kirby: {j-}{j-}
Third Player: {a-}{k-}

Chrisp was the favorite, and there would be no bad beat as the board ran out clean. It looked as if Kirby may reenter, but only time will tell.

On to Wisconsin for Kessler

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Allen Kessler swung by the desk to inform us he'd just been eliminated from the tournament.

According to him, he lost a big pot just before the dinner break. When he returned, he three-bet jammed for 17,000 over the top of a Duma Lowery open.

"He'd been opening a lot," Kessler explained.

Lowery called with {a-}{j-}, which was flipping with Kessler's {7-}{7-}. An ace in the window spelled doom for Kessler, who informed us he would not be reentering. However, he now plans on traveling to Wisconsin for next weekend's MSPT Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells, the penultimate stop of MSPT Season 6.
