Player of the Year Leader Sits Down

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Mark Hodge
Mark Hodge

Mark Hodge, who is #1 on the MSPT Player of the Year leaderboard is in the field for Day 1a. He just took a very small uncontested pot early in the tournament.

Hodge was in the big blind and three players limped. Hodge checked his option and all players checked the board until the river. The board read {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and finally Hodge was the first player to take a stab at the pot. He bet 300 and each of the remaining players folded in turn.

Cards in the Air, Dolezalek Doubles First Hand

Cards are in the air here at the MSPT Ho-Chunk Wisconsin Dells and Matthew Dolezalek has already doubled up.

Moments after MSPT Founder Bryan Mileski kicked off the tournament, he also had a warning for players. Mileski let players know they should be careful when betting, because the 5,000 and the 500 chips look very similar. The 5,000 are almost a light pink and the 500s are purple.

Well that came into play on the first hand when Dolezalek accidentally bet 5,025 on a {j-}{10-}{4-} flop. His opponent reraised all in and Dolezalek called with {j-}{10-} for two pair. His opponent had {a-}{j-} and couldn't catch up. Dolezalek tallies the first knock out and takes the early chip lead.

MSPT Ho-Chunk Wisconsin Dells Main Event Begins Today

The penultimate event of the Mid-States Poker Tour Season 6 kicks off with Day 1a today at 4 p.m. local time. As usual, the MSPT has been running satellites leading up the main event and is expecting a higher turnout than last year’s Ho-Chunk Wisconsin Dells Main Event.

Mark Hodge, who leads the MSPT Player of the Year race, was seen in last night’s satellite and is expected to be part of the field. Hodge leads by more than 500 points after finishing in 6th place at MSPT Meskwaki earlier this month. Hodge has never won an MSPT event and will be looking to cap off season six with his first MSPT title and lock up the player of the year.

Several MSPT regulars have also been spotted and are expected to join the field. Howard Hankin, a crowd favorite from Chicago, will be looking for his third MSPT cash and his first outside of Milwaukee. Terry Ring is also here and will be looking for his second MSPT cash of the year.

The last time the MSPT was in Wisconsin Dells, they drew 463 entrants and Ben Wiora took home $114,512. This field is expected to be a little bit smaller than that, but still bigger than last year at this time. Last September, the MSPT Wisconsin Dells event drew 349 entrants and a first place prize of just over $90,000.

There will be two day one flights, today and tomorrow and the tournament will end on Day 2 Sunday evening. Stay tuned to pokernews.com for live updates throughout the weekend. Also, the MSPT crew will be broadcasting the final table on a 15-minute delay Sunday evening.
