Welcome to Day 2 of the $1,100 MSPT Main Event at Canterbury Park

The final stop for Season 10 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will come to its conclusion today as the $1,100 buy-in, $500K GTD Main Event at Minnesota’s Canterbury Park gets underway at 11 a.m.

There have been three starting flights that pulled together a staggering 802 total entries, which was enough to blast by the half a million guarantee that was set. A total of 105 players have found a bag and those lucky enough to do so will be returning today for Day 2 action.

Leading the remaining players with the overall chip lead is World Series of Poker bracelet winner John Reading. Reading bagged large in Day 1c and will look to add his first MSPT title to his already impressive poker resume.

Many other familiar faces will be battling it out for a shot at the six-figure top prize which include a list of former MSPT Main Event winners; Rob Wazwaz (253,500), Mark Jaroslawski (250,000), Jonathan Kim (203,000), Kou Vang (165,000), Season 10 MSPT player of the year Mike Shin (156,500), Sam Vizza (139,500), Michael Wilmes (117,500), James Gibson (104,000), Muneer Ahmed (102,500), Tom Stambaugh (102,500), Ahmed Taleb (47,000) and Jeffrey Birt (33,000).

Although there are 105 players returning for Day 2 action, only 81 of them will be grabbing a piece of the prize pool. Once the money is reached players will be paid a min-cash of $2,174, but all eyes will be on the $155,288 first-place prize that the eventual champion will be taking home, along with an MSPT title.

Day 2 Schedule

Cards will be in the air at 11 a.m. local time with blind levels lasting 40-minutes in length until heads-up play is reached, at which point they will be reduced to 30-minutes. As Day 1a reached the earliest hard stop, that's the point where Day 2 will begin.

Action kicks off from level 15 with 16:54 left on the clock where blinds are 2,000/4,000 with a 4,000 big blind ante. Once the final 27 players have been reached a transition from the big blind ante to a standard ante will come into play.

The plan is to play down to an eventual winner with the final table to be live-streamed worldwide on a 15-minute delay on the MSPT’s website.

Mike Shin Wins MSPT Season 10 POY

For the first time in tour history, the MSPT Player of the Year race was a foregone conclusion since the start as Mike Shin held a commanding lead throughout the entirety of the season and has now secured his $10,000 reward. His 5,475 points was well ahead of Adam Friedman, who was his next closest competition with 3,500 points. Shin has amassed 11 MSPT cashes in 2019 which includes winning the MSPT Majestic Star back in January for $68,593 and finishing third in the MSPT Venetian over the summer for $334,000. That was the second-largest score of his career behind the $427,930 he received for finishing 12th in the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event.
