Gregory Geller Claims Day 1b Chip Lead

Day 1b has come to an end in the $360 MSPT Golden Gates Regional Event with 21 players advancing to Day 2 out of the 167 entries.

Leading the way is Gregory Geller with 335,000. Closely trailing him is Ryan Dodson with 331,000, and Andrew Peragallo rounds up the top three with 306,000. These are the only three stacks above the 300,000 mark for this flight.

Geller has an impressive resume with $392,026 in total live earnings. He got 6th in this event in 2016, and just a couple of months ago, he got third in the $1,100 Main Event of the MSPT Majestic Star. He will be looking to claim his first MSPT trophy.

As for Dodson, he is also a familiar face in the poker world. Dodson was reponsible for the elimination of multiple players throughout the day including the one of Jay McVeigh when he turned a set of kings against McVeigh's kings and jacks. He managed to keep building after it and eventually found himself bagging the second biggest stack.

"My uncle died of suicide last week, so I told myself that if I win, this will be for him so I can give the money to charity," Dodson commented after bagging.

Some of the notables who have also gained their ticket for day 2 include Khoa Nguyen (263,000), Jared Ingles (200,000), Vincent Moscati (124,000), Vincent Griboski (111,000) and Andreas Ramadanis (76,000).

Other players who took a shot at Day 1b but couldn't get anything going their way include Ben Keeline, Steve Koerner, Matt Grisham, John Yeager and Jim Gosselin. They will have the option to try again in any of the two remaining flights.

Day 1c will take place tomorrow at noon local time so keep following PokerNews for all the latest news.

Dodson Takes Over the Lead

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Ryan Dodson raised to 10,000 from middle position and Barb Visher called from the button along with Keith Wright in the big blind.

Players saw a flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Wright checked. Dodson bet 8,000 and Visher took a few seconds of reflection.

"It's a discount?" asked Visher jokingly.

"What's wrong with a discount?" said Dodson.

"Like you want me to participate," answered Visher.

A few seconds later, Visher called and Wright folded.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and was checked through to the {5-Clubs} river. Dodson fired 15,000 and Visher went deep into the tank.

"Look at you, just inviting me to call," muttered Visher, then proceeded to call. Dodson tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and Visher sent her hand to the muck.

"You're so much better than me," added Visher.

Another One for Visher

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Barb Visher limped from middle position along with Keith Wright in the hijack and Andrew Peragallo on the cutoff. Bryan Tom checked from the big blind.

The dealer fanned a flop of {k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Tom checked. Visher threw in a bet of 15,000, that was enough to win the pot.

"You scare me guys, you scare me," muttered Visher showing {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}.

Berman Keeps Building

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

There was a pot of about 15,000 in the middle and the flop was reading {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} when Ben Berman bet 15,000 from the small blind. The player in the big blind went deep into the tank then raised to 40,000. Berman stuck around with a call.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and was checked through to the {7-Hearts} river. Both players checked again. The player in the big blind showed {q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for a pair of queens but Berman revealed {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} to win the pot with a pair of queens and a better kicker.
