Jason Kapoor Dispatches PokerGO Commentator Jeff Platt

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Jeff Platt
Jeff Platt

Michigan's Jason Kapoor raised to 4,000 from the button and PokerGO commentator Jeff Platt, who is also a co-host of the PokerNews Podcast, three-bet jammed for 42,000 from the small blind. The player in the big folded and Kapoor wasted little time in making the call.

Jason Kapoor: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Jeff Platt: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Platt was in dire straits with his inferior kicker and needed a bailout. The {10-}{7-}{2-} rainbow flop didn't do him any favors, but another {7-} on the turn did open some chop-portunities. Unfortunately for Platt, the {4-} river was a brick and his run in the MSPT Sycuan Casino $1,100 Main Event came to an end.

Bryant Miller Cracks Kings to Score a Knockout

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Bryant Miller
Bryant Miller

A player got their stack of approximately 60,000 all in preflop and was at risk against Bryant Miller.

Bryant Miller: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Miller was behind but got a little help on the {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop. Miller needed even more help, however, and he got it when the {a-Diamonds} spiked on the turn.

The {8-Diamonds} river was of no consequence and Miller scored the knockout while increasing his own stack significantly.

A Lot of Lady Love for Tony Galanti

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Tony Galanti
Tony Galanti

A player in early position raised to 4,000 and the player on the button called. Tony Galanti then three-bet jammed for 56,500 from the small blind and the original raiser called. The other player got out of the way and the hands were turned up.

Tony Galanti: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Galanti failed to find an ace, but he still won the pot. That's because the {7-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} flop paired his queen, and while the {9-Hearts} turn was a brick, the {q-Hearts} river was not as Galanti rivered trips to stay alive.

2021 MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship Coming Up Next Weekend

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Silverado Deadwood
Silverado Deadwood

After the MSPT leaves California, they’ll head back to the Midwest to Silverado-Franklin Casino in Deadwood for the $1,100 South Dakota State Poker Championship from May 14-16, 2021.

In the past, the South Dakota State Poker Championship has been a standalone event at Silverado-Franklin dating back to 2011, but in 2018 they joined forces with the MSPT. In 2017, Ryan Skluzak topped a field of 136 entries to win the 2017 South Dakota State Poker Championship for $37,500. The first year partnered with the MSPT, the field grew to 286 runners and saw Rick Burleson take it down for $63,462, and in 2019 it was Sergio Mireles besting a 258-entry field to win it for $60,946.

The Silverado-Franklin Hotel & Gaming Complex offers more than 360 different slot machines, Deadwood’s largest table games area (Caribbean Stud, 4-Card Poker, Let It Ride, and 3-Card Poker all with a $1,000 betting limit), and a poker room. In addition, there is great food and drink options at Legends Steakhouse, Silverado Grand Buffet, and the Veranda, which offers unique views of historic Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Rocks, and the town of Deadwood.

Deadwood is known for many things but for poker players it's perhaps best known for aces and eights, otherwise known as the Deadman’s Hand. In 1876, Wild Bill Hickok held that hand in a game of poker at a saloon just a few blocks from the present-day Silverado when he was shot by Jack McCall.

Allen Kessler Goes the Speed Limit to a Double

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Right before the break, there was 11,700 in the pot and a flop of {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} when Allen Kessler got his last 8,500 or so all in against an opponent with a big pocket pair.

Allen Kessler: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Kessler was ahead with a set of fives and he held through the {q-Spades} turn and {a-Diamonds} river.

Christina Read Hooks Herself a Knockout

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Christina Read
Christina Read

A short-stacked player was all in preflop for their last 15,000 or so and looking to get lucky against Christina Read.

Christina Read: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Read was well out in front and took a commanding lead when the {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop delivered her a set. The {4-Diamonds} turn left her opponent drawing dead, and Read was pushed the pot after the {6-Hearts} was run out on the river.

AJ Javier Sends One to the Rail

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
AJ Javier
AJ Javier

A short-stacked player moved all in for 7,000 from the cutoff and Adrian Lopez three-bet to 13,000 from the button. AJ Javier then essentially four-bet jammed for 52,200, leaving himself just a single black T100 chip behind. Allen Kessler folded from the big blind and Lopez got out of the way.

AJ Javier: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Cutoff: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

It was a flip and Javier was looking to hold. He did so on the {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, and the {q-Diamonds} turn actually gave him a set, though it kept his opponent drawing live to a Broadway draw. Fortunately for Javier, the {2-Spades} river was safe and he collected the pot.
