Adrian Bertini
Adrian Bertini

Day 1a of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event is officially in the books with 385 total entries tallied by night's end. Those who entered came to play and the action at the tables proved to be eventful from start to finish.

After 15 full levels, it was Adrian Bertini (471,000) leading the pack of 46 by a margin after finishing the night with an exclamation mark. The top five is rounded out by four other players who finished the day north of 300,000: Tony Zharnitsky (394,000), Andrew Moreno (369,000), James Voles (368,000), and Hal Klein (333,000).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to fire and fall in Tuesday’s flight were WSOP bracelet winner's Robert Mitchell, Brett Apter, and Michael Wang, along with MSPT Champion's Bob Whalen, and Chris Moon were just a few who took their shot at a bag on Day 1a only to come up short. All who have yet to advance will have two more starting flights for further attempts.

Day 1b will get underway at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Late registration and re-entries will remain open through Level 9 (approximately 6:40 p.m.). PokerNews will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then

Big Slick Does the Trick for Brookshire

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
David Brookshire
David Brookshire

There was all in action preflop between David Brookshire from the big blind and the cutoff player with Brookshire's stack at risk.

David Brookshire: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {k-}{6-}

Brookshire had his opponent dominated and the {2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} flop didn't change a thing.

The {4-Diamonds} turn did give Brookshire a sweat as it gave his opponent a better gutshot straight draw but luckily for him, the {8-Spades} completed the board on the river and secured his double-up.

Chad Holloway
Chad Holloway

PokerNews's Chad Holloway came back from break and doubled his stack in two hands after he raised to 2,000 from middle position finding one caller directly to his left.

Holloway led out for 2,500, his opponent called and quickly mucked after he showed top two-pair {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

One hand later, Holloway opened to 2,500 from under the gun and found two callers before the big blind squeezed all in for 19,800. Holloway came over the top and isolated holding a pair of kings. His opponent held an inferior {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and was eliminated after the runout.

Min So
Min So

Action folded around to the player in late position who raised to 1,500 and found two callers before Min So three-bet to 5,500 from the button.

The initial raiser called, as did the hijack player, and Jared Griener got out of the way from the cutoff. The {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop was checked to So who continued for 5,000 and both his opponents called to see the {8-Spades} fall on the turn.

Action was checked to So who jammed for 16,400 and once again, was called by both his opponents. The river fell a blank and was checked around to showdown.

So quickly showed {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and it was good enough to secure him the pot as {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} and {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} were tossed into the muck.
