Day 1a of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event is officially in the books with 385 total entries tallied by night's end. Those who entered came to play and the action at the tables proved to be eventful from start to finish.

After 15 full levels, it was Adrian Bertini (471,000) leading the pack of 46 by a margin after finishing the night with an exclamation mark. The top five is rounded out by four other players who finished the day north of 300,000: Tony Zharnitsky (394,000), Andrew Moreno (369,000), James Voles (368,000), and Hal Klein (333,000).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to fire and fall in Tuesday’s flight were WSOP bracelet winner's Robert Mitchell, Brett Apter, and Michael Wang, along with MSPT Champion's Bob Whalen, and Chris Moon were just a few who took their shot at a bag on Day 1a only to come up short. All who have yet to advance will have two more starting flights for further attempts.

Day 1b will get underway at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Late registration and re-entries will remain open through Level 9 (approximately 6:40 p.m.). PokerNews will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then

Fater Eliminated by Misirian

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Noam Fater
Noam Fater

Action folded to John Misirian who raised on the button, Noam Fater called from the small blind as did Grant Giftwood from the big blind.

Once the {2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop hit the felt, Fater jammed for 25,000 and Misirian called after Giftwood folded.

Noam Fater: {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
John Misirian: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Fater didn't like seeing that Misirian paired his nine after having him dominated and the {k-Diamonds} turn wasn't any help.

Fater needed a jack to stay alive but the {2-Clubs} river ended his tournament.

Bailey Wins With River Bet

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Mike Bailey
Mike Bailey

Action on the table folded to Las Vegas local Mike Bailey who raised to 8,000 from the cutoff and the big blind defended.

The {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop saw Bailey's opponent check-call his 10,000 continuation bet while both players checked the {7-Spades} turn. After the {5-Spades} completed the board on the river, Bailey's opponent check-folded after he fired out a 17,000 bet.

Tens Fill Up for Yokoyama

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
David Yokoyama
David Yokoyama

A player from middle position open-jammed for 40,000 and David Yokoyama isolated from late position.

David Yokoyama: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Yokoyama was ahead with his made hand and the {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} paired flop didn't change a thing.

The {10-Hearts} turn was a pleasant sight for Yokoyama as it gave him a full house, leaving his opponent drawing dead to the {5-Hearts}.
