Bouaphanh Leuaxay Bags Top Stack After Day 1b of MSPT Riverside $1,100 Main Event

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Bouaphanh Leuaxay
Bouaphanh Leuaxay

Another full day of action has played to its conclusion at the 2022 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Riverside $1,100 Main Event. The second of three flights drew 382 entries to bring the two-day total thus far to 522 and with that number, the $500K GTD has already been surpassed with one flight remaining.

Of those 382 entries, only 44 players remained when chips went into bags and Bouaphanh Leuaxay found himself atop the counts with a stack of 623,00.

Leuaxay was the only player to bag above 600k while the top five all bagged over 400k; John Schroeder (482,000), Jared Williams (444,000), Cero Zuccarello (443,000), and Jeff Fielder (429,000).

Much like Day 1a, the final level of the night saw an onslaught of casualties, with players such as MSPT Hall of Famer Rob Wazwaz and Matt Morfitt among those to be eliminated before play concluded for the night with chips flying all across the five remaining tables in the final level of play that led to a lot of players riding roller coasters with their stack sizes before becoming official for the evening.

Several other familiar players will also be joining the aforementioned five. Two-time MSPT Champ Dan Bekavac (330,000), Darnell Echols (328,000), reigning champ Timothy Gundrum (118,000) and DJ Buckley (83,000) are just a few more of the players to add their names to the Day 2 roster along with the 17 to have already advanced from Day 1a.

Among those not as lucky at the felt included Mikiyo Aoki, MSPT Champ's Jonathan Kim, Josh Reichard, Ken Baime, and Todd Bartlett, with at least a few if not all of them likely to be seen back in action for the final flight.

The final starting flight will get underway tomorrow at 3.00 p.m. Late registration and re-entries will remain open through Level 12 (approximately 11:40 p.m.). PokerNews will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then.

DiTrapani Spkies King on River to Double Through Brenden

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Nicola DiTrapani

Nicola DiTrapani was all in preflop for 12,400 from the hijack and Harold Brenden came over the top for 26,800 from the cutoff getting isolation.

Nicola DiTrapani: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Harold Brenden: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

It was a classic race with DiTrapani looking to connect with either of his two overs but neither came on the {7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop.

The {5-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn leaving DiTrapani needing help on the river and luckily for him, the dealer answered his prayer by dropping the {k-Clubs} on the river, securing his double-up.

Michael Berk
Michael Berk

There was heads-up action between Michel Berk from the button and his opponent from the cutoff with a completed board of {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{k-Spades} board showing.

Action was checked to Berk who tossed out a 30,000 bet with over 35,000 already in the middle.

The bet sent Berk's opponent deep into the tank as it put them at risk. After a few minutes passed, Berk's opponent called, and the two players tabled their hands.

Berk quickly rolled over {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} for aces and deuces and it was good as his opponent tossed {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} into the muck.
