Mader Run Down

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Phil Mader raised to 2,500 in the cutoff versus a limper on his right and they took a {3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop heads up. Mader continued for 2,200 and his opponent called. On the {j-Diamonds} turn, Mader barreled again for 4,000 and they went to a {9-Spades} river. This time, the hijack led out big for 13,000.

Mader seemed to chuckle beneath his mask as he thought it over, then he placed a chip in after about 45 seconds. His opponent showed {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for the nuts.

Vang Wastes No Time

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante

Kou Vang hadn't been seated long before he was all in preflop for 21,600 in the big blind. He had the goods, too, showing {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}, and was crushing an opponent who had {a-}{k-} in the cutoff.

The board ran out eight-high and Vang scooped a double to get him off to a fast start. He's also coming off a huge score in Las Vegas a few weeks back after making the final table of WPT Venetian, finishing fifth for a career-best $204,430.

Powell Too Sticky for Own Good

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante

Reg Powell opened for 1,500 under the gun and got one caller before a player in late position jammed for 14,900. Powell thought good and long and tossed in calling chips. The third player folded.

Powell showed {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} but was dominated by {a-Spades}{k-Spades}. The {q-} in the window was gold for Powell but it was followed by {a-}{10-} and he improved no further.

Holloway Drops One, Lang Needs a Second Shell

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Chad Holloway called a bet from the big blind against the cutoff on a board of {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Both players checked the {10-Spades} and {8-Clubs}, with the cutoff simply opening {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for a straight.

Holloway rechecked his cards then tossed in {q-}{q-} with a shake of the head.

At another table, Mike Lang reported losing the last 8,000 or so with {a-}{a-} all in preflop against {10-}{10-}. He'll be back in on a second shell when the alternate list clears up.

Marsh Dubs With Quads

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a board of {9-}{7-}{3-}{9-}, Nick Marsh was all in for 11,400, about the size of the pot. Stanley Webb was in the tank and then tossed in some chips with a "nice hand."

Indeed, he was beaten as Marsh held {9-Clubs}{8-Spades} for trips, but Webb had two outs with {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. The {9-} on the river just made Marsh's hand improve to quads, though.
