Matheson Pushes Out the Competition

Former MSPT champ Joe Matheson was in middle position and raised to 4,000. Action folded around to the small blind who called while the player in the big blind folded their hand.

Flop:

Matheson's opponent led out for a bet of 4,000 and Matheson found the call.

The turn was a third spade leading Matheson's opponent to check. Without hesitating, Matheson shoved all in with a pot-size bet of 16,000. The player in the small blind considered the call for quite some time before finally throwing his cards into the muck.

Walston Earns a Double and a Friend

The under-the-gun player flat-called the big blind and Barb Walston raised to 8,000 in middle position. Action folded back to the UTG player who pushed a large stack of blue chips forward and said, "All-in." Walston called and quickly flipped over her hoping she was ahead.

Facing the bad news, Walston verbally mentioned that she needed some help. The dealer quickly put out the board.

As the dealer counted Walston's chips, the realization hit her that she had survived with a rivered straight.

"She's still alive!" shouted her neighbor to her right, Chance Kornuth. "What's your name?" shouted Kornuth still enjoying the excitement of the hand.

It appears Walston not only earned a double-up but also a new friend.

Day 1a brought in 141 players and Day 1b has now closed at 361 players.

With 502 through Days 1a and 1b, the goal of breaking 1,000 players looks well within reach.

If you've missed out on joining the event the final entry flight begins tomorrow at 12:10 p.m. with Day 1c. Day 2 will begin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m..

Moak Doubles His Stack With Sevens

Sidney Moak raised to 5,000 from the under-the-gun position.

"I'm all in," said a player in middle position before pushing in nearly 60,000 covering Moak's 25,000 stack easily.

Moak shrugged and said, "Okay, I call," as he turned over his hand.
