Luu Coolers Perez With a Straight Flush

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Kin Luu defended the small blind against a raise by Emmanuel Perez from early position and there were gasps on the table when they got the chips in after the {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} turn.

Emmanuel Perez: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Kin Luu: {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

"Woah," Perez exclaimed as he was drawing dead with the nut flush and the {8-Clubs} river ended his run.

"Can I take a picture?" he inquired with the dealer, who replied "go for it". The Spaniard snapped the picture and then headed to the rail.

Latest Batch of Casualties

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

According to the tournament info screens, the Day 1b field has now swelled to 264 entries mid-way through level six. Of those, only 186 players remain and the latest casualties include Kanan Farzaliyev, Abdul Wakeel, Kevin Allen and Maciej Plocki.

Arthur Doubles Meregedze

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

With more than 11,000 already in the middle, Karen Arthur checked her option out of the big blind on the {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} board. Dan Meregedze got the last 2,600 in from the cutoff and Arthur called after brief consideration. She was shown the {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for the flopped straight and turned flush, which beat her {k-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for top pair and no kicker.

Samson Busts a Shorter Stack

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

As the action accelerates towards the end of the first half on Day 1a, the shorter stacks keep on getting the chips in with all-in and call announcements spreading through the tournament room every other second.

Dan Samson was involved in one of these in a battle of the blinds when he got it in with {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds} against the {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} of his table neighbour in the big blind. The {10-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades} board gave Samson the superior hand as the field was reduced by one contender.

Duta Done By Drum

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Shortly after the blinds went up, Conor Drum raised and then called the shove by a short-stacked Florian Duta for around 12,000.

Duta tabled the {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and was well ahead of {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop gave Drum the flush draw, which he instantly hit on the {7-Hearts} turn to leave Duta drawing dead. A meaningless {a-Hearts} river only improved Drum to the nut flush as Duta quickly left the tournament area.

Recent Eliminations on Day 1b

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante

There are still barely any open seats in the main tournament area as the field shows 190 players out of 233 entries remaining. Both numbers are perhaps even bigger as there is a steady line of entries and re-entries at the registration desk. Some of those bowing out as of lately can be found below.

Roller Coaster Runout Felts Lee

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante
Brandon Sheils
Brandon Sheils

Jason Lee and Brandon Sheils tangled in a post flop all-in contest on the {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop on which Lee was covered by a small margin.

Jason Lee: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Brandon Sheils: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The {k-Diamonds} turn improved Lee but the {q-Diamonds} river restored the preflop order, giving Sheils a set. The stacks were counted and Sheils' 23,300 covered to send Lee to the rail.

Sheth Pays Off Argelazi

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante

Rani Sheth defended the big blind against a hijack raise by Eliran Argelazi and check-called the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds} turn for 4,000. He then also checked the {4-Spades} on the river and Argelazi bet another 6,500. Sheth tanked for a minute and called to muck once Argelazi tabled the {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for aces and eights.

While the hand played out, Antoine Saout entered the Day 1b field and took a seat on the same table.

Mascolo Scores a Double

Level 5 : 200/500, 500 ante

Jamie Burland raised to 1,100 and earned a call from Tudor Bartha in the small blind. Giulio Mascolo then jammed for 9,600 in the big blind and Burland folded while Bartha called.

Giulio Mascolo: {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Tudor Bartha: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and the pair of Mascolo improved to a straight to double.
