Suited Ace for de Wijs ... Again

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On the river of a {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board, Sebastian Mortelmans bet 8,000 and Niels van de Wijs raised to 26,000. Mortelmans asked his opponent whether or not he would show and was promised just that while de Wijs this time admitted he didn't have the nuts, but a "really good hand."

So far, de Wijs had been honest at the table and always showed. Mortelmans indeed folded the {10-Diamonds} and was shown {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, which prompted table neighbor Wim Neys to crack a big smile. One hand later, de Wijs sent Per Sjobrand to the rail and is nearing six digits in total.

Koop Gets Lucky

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Rob van de Riet was the initial raiser and Alexis Longhe moved all in from two seats over before Niko Koop also got his stack of 22,000 chips in as well, holding {A-}{J-}. Van de Riet snap-called with pocket kings while Longhe had pocket jacks. The flop immediately came with an ace and Koop tripled up, Longhe busted.

From Nine to Zero

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Among the 125 participants on Day 1a of the 2015 Unibet Open Main Event in Antwerp were nine players from Finland but that has since been reduced to zero. Jorma Vuoksenmaa was the last to fall when getting his stack in with pocket eights. His opponent held pocket tens and the Finn didn't get there anymore.

Some Big Stacks

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Lobus Gone' Lybaert Jojo's

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Artem Lobus has been eliminated with aces against the kings of Patrick Aerts while Bart Lybaert continued his roller coaster ride up and down the chip counts. Lybaert defended his big blind against the raise of Gertjan Kars and both players checked the flop {5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. On the {9-Spades} turn, Lybaert bet 3,000 and was called before making it 8,700 to go on the {A-Diamonds} river.

Kars asked his opponent how much he was playing and then called to see the Belgian flip over {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for trips nines. Kars mucked his {A-Clubs} and the pot was shipped to Lybaert.

Van Brabander Busts on the Feature Table

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Charlotte van Brabander
Charlotte van Brabander

Down to her last five big blinds, Charlotte van Brabander got her stack in with the {J-Spades}{8-Clubs} on the feature table. Nikita Malinovskiy isolated with the {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and got everyone else to fold and spiked a set on the flop {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Both the {5-Diamonds} turn and {9-Clubs} river provided no miracle anymore and that was it for the young Belgian.

De Korver's Mission on Track

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Pieter de Korver has played many Main Events of the Unibet Open but admitted to have never cashed in them before. The Dutchman busted Dan Glimne with jacks versus {A-}{7-} and another player with jacks versus {A-}{9-}, making a set each time. De Korver moved up to six digits and was sent straight back to the feature table as a reward after his table broke.

With only 63 players remaining, the field of Day 1a has already been cut into half and about three levels remain before bagging and tagging.

Four Seat Open

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

There are only 63 players remaining and among the most recent bustouts were Jochum Weenink, David Kahan, Tapio Jarvinen and Charlotte van Brabander. The latter was short for quite some time on the feature table and ran out of chips eventually.

As far as Jarvinen is concerned, he failed to improve with pocket tens against pocket queens.
