Day 1a Started
The first out of two starting days of the popular €1,000 + €100 Unibet Open Main Event at the Casino Barriere de Cannes kicks off in about 30 minutes from now at 13:00 local time (CET). Tournament director John Scanlon instructed the dealers with the words "we want everyone to have a lot of fun" and that pretty much sums up the experience that the players can look forward to.
This is the third stop in season 7 with previous events at Copenhagen and the Celtic Park in Glasgow, furthermore Unibet is visiting the French Riviera for the third time as well. In 2014, Daniel Smith emerged victorious in an impressive field of 457 participants and Giuseppe Zarbo, Nicolas Le Floch and Alain Roy made said Final Table, too.
As far as the Main Event is concerned, everyone receives 30,000 chips at the start and a total of 10 levels of one hour each will be played with the late registration being open until the end of level four. There will be a split dinner break at the end of level six and before the start of the event, the screens already showed 128 players registered.
Some 230 hopefuls have won their entry through the online Satellites on the French and international client and Nataly Sopacuaperu of Unibet is hopeful that a new record can be set, the number to beat is 460 entries.
There will also be a live stream of the feature table available as well with French and English commentary while the PokerNews live reporting team will be here to bring you all key hands until a winner is crowned on Sunday.
Level: 1
Blinds: 50/100
Ante: 0
Tournament director John Scanlon has welcomed all players and the button was drawn for seat two. The "first card of the deck" rule will be enforced and same applies for the "English only at the tables while in a hand", which may become interesting for the many French participants.
Among the more well known faces on Day 1a are Fabian Stache and Zoltan Kapitany while many of the participants where the qualifier badge. Others are also already registered but haven't taken their seats yet, included in that group are Quentin Lecomte, Mateusz Moolhuizen and Jonathan Rozema.

It started rather innocent with a battle of the blinds and limped pot between Ahmed Sellaoui and Frank van Honk over on table 13. Both players then checked the flop and van Honk check-raised the turn from 500 to 1,000. Sellaoui called and the Dutchman fired the river for 1,600.
Sellaoui tossed in some chips without saying anything and van Honk turned over his cards, it was the for a flush. The floor was called and it turned out to not be a call but a raise while the dealer had mucked the cards of Sellaoui. A few minutes passed by with discussion in French and English before the pot was shipped to the Dutchman.

The late registration will be open until the end of level four and it appears to be a decent turnout for this first out of two starting days.

Besides the friendly atmosphere, players can also take advantage of free drinks such as water and coffee. Another specialty as quick snack and motivation up for grabs are the "Madeleines", a cake-like gift to boost the creativity at the tables.
Up to 25 tables can be used today including the feature table and the field size has increased to 165 entrants. Once someone runs out of chips, the tournament is over though as the event is run as Freezeout.
