Vukovic Takes Two on the Outer Table

Level 22 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Guy Ohayon raised to 70,000 and Robert Vukovic defended the big blind to see a flop of {J-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Both players checked and the {6-Clubs} fell on the turn. Vukovic bet 115,000 and Ohayon folded.

Vukovic raised to 80,000 from the small blind next and Dor Lan called in the big blind. The {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop and the {Q-Diamonds} turn were checked. Lan bet the {A-Clubs} river for 85,000 and Vukovic moved all in to force a fold. "I will tell you what I had if you tell me what you had," Vukovic offered, but didn't get a reply.

Straight for Pertea

Level 22 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Christopher Heidelbacher raised to 65,000 with the {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Marius Pertea defended the {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. The flop fell {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Pertea checked, Heidelbacher continued for 60,000 and the fellow Romanian called.

The {K-Clubs} on the turn was checked by Pertea and Heidelbacher fired a second bet of 115,000 and Pertea called with the bottom end of the straight.

The {5-Spades} on the river brought no betting action and Pertea claimed the pot with the straight.

Who Will Be Crowned Champion of the 2017 Unibet Open Bucharest €1,100 Main Event?

From 8 big blinds to big stack - Bojan Zidar sits in 2nd place
From 8 big blinds to big stack - Bojan Zidar sits in 2nd place

After two starting days and ten and a half levels on Day 2, the 10-year anniversary edition of the Unibet Open Main Event at the luxurious JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel has seen a field of 502 entries whittled down all the way to just ten hopefuls. The lion's share of the €486,940 prize pool is still up for grabs and each of the finalists is guaranteed at least €7,920 for their efforts, while the winner can look forward to a payday of €90,925 and the coveted trophy.

A new first-time Unibet Open Main Event champion will be crowned today as of noon local time, as Mister Unibet Open Dan Murariu, who won it twice and reached the final table another three times in the ten years of the event's history, bowed out in 30th place. Action will recommence with half an hour left at level 22 at blinds of 15,000/30,000 with a running ante of 5,000 and the man at the top of the leader board is Israel's Avi Cohen with 2,750,000.

Cohen shot to the top of the counts midway through Day 2 before plummeting back into the middle of the pack. An eventful last two levels vaulted him back into the spotlight and he will commence the bid for the title with 91 big blinds. Even more remarkable is the comeback of Slovenia's Bojan Zidar (2,425,000), who was down to fewer than eight big blinds on the last two tables and enters the final day with the second biggest stack.

Pavao Veza sits in third place with 2,025,000, and three Romanians are trying to keep the trophy on home soil in consecutive years: Christopher Heidelbacher (1,510,000) and Marius Pertea (1,460,000) are right in the middle of the pack, Bogdan Ionescu (639,000) will be the short stack with 21 big blinds. The other finalists include Henrik Tellving (1,425,000), Guy Ohayon (1,315,000), Dor Lan (805,000) and Robert Vukovic (725,000).
