Soukup Off to a Good Start

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

In a four-bet pot where both players stuck in 4,100 each preflop, Martin Soukup was heads-up with Marius Popescu. The flop fell {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Popescu led out for 2,500 from under the gun. Soukup called and the {10-Clubs} landed on the turn.

Popescu thought for a minute before firing out another bet of 6,800. Soukup still called and the {4-Hearts} completed the board. Popescu went into the tank before finally tapping the table. Soukup also took his time but decided to check it back. Popescu showed {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} while Soukup held {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} to claim the pot.

Leledakis Has the Best Ace-High

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

After a limp from Lasse Bogen in the hijack, Andreas Leledakis raised to 400 on the button. The blinds folded and Bogen called to go heads-up to a flop of {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

Bogen check-called a bet of 400 from Leledakis and the {q-Clubs} paired the board on the turn. Bogen led out for 300 this time and Leledakis called. The river was the {k-Hearts} and both players knuckled the table. Bogen showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} but Leledakis had him out-kicked with {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

The 2019 Unibet Open Malta Main Event Kicks Off Today at Noon

Daniel Jacobsen
Daniel Jacobsen

With four stops across Europe in the season, Unibet Open makes its return to the Mediterranean island of Malta. It will be a week filled with many types of tournaments and a range of buy-ins but our focus will be on the €1,100 Main Event. In conjunction with Casino Malta, the event will be held in the luxurious InterContinental Hotel.

Earlier this season, Martin Soukup from the Czech Republic took down the Main Event in Sinaia, Romania for €71,000. Also, Daniel James captured the Main Event in his home country of London, England for £80,200 in a record-breaking field. There will be one more stop in Paris, France from November 28 - December 1.

Last year at the Unibet Open Malta, Daniel Jacobsen from Denmark took home the title in a field of 273 entries. Jacobsen earned €60,090 for his win with the prizepool sitting at €273,000. Jacobsen will likely be back this year to defend his title along with many of the Unibet Ambassadors and streamers.

The cards will go in the air at 12 pm local time for Day 1a and each player will receive a starting stack of 30,000 chips. The blinds will be 60 minutes in length and begin at 100/100. There will be a 20-minute break after every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level. A total of 10 levels are on the schedule for today.

There will be three starting flights with Day 1b and Day 1c taking place tomorrow. Day 1c will be a turbo flight with 20-minute levels. Late registration will remain open until after the dinner break and each player will have the option of one re-entry into Day 1c only.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be here throughout the tournament to bring you all of the live updates so be sure to keep it locked here.
