If You Want to Win a Tournament, You Might Have To Crack a Few Aces

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Ray Henson
Ray Henson

In two out of the last three hands the player who was all in with aces lost. First, Ray Henson doubled through Cory Glass when he shoved {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} into Glass's {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. The board ran out {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and Glass was left with a little more than six big blinds.

Two hands later, John Deckard, aka Johnny Q, shoved all in over a James Mordue raise. There was another shove over Q's and Mordue folded leaving Q heads up against aces. Q had {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} and he was against {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}.

"Come on put a six out there, just for sh*ts and giggles," said Q. The board ran out {7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs} and when the {5-Hearts} hit the turn, Q cheered, as he made a straight.

The remaining 58 players are going on a 15-minute break. Play will continue until the field is whittled down to 49 players.

Floyd Gets Paid Off

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

The board read {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Toby Floyd faced a raise to 100,000. He shoved all in for 130,000 more. After some agonizing, and seemingly deciding that he shouldn't call, his opponent decided to call anyway, saying he had too much money in the pot already. He turned over {6-}{4-} and Floyd had a set of nines with the {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The river was a blank, and Floyd eliminated his opponent before he stacked up to over 500,000 chips.

Hutter Takes Another

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Barry Hutter raised to 15,000 from under the gun, a player in middle position called, and Upeshka De Silva called on the button. The flop came down {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, and Hutter checked. The next player bet 22,000, De Silva folded, and Hutter called.

The turn was the {K-Hearts}, and both players checked. The river was the {Q-Clubs}, and Hutter led with a bet of 78,000. His opponent folded, and Hutter won the pot.

Hutter Takes One from De Silva

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Upeshka De Silva
Upeshka De Silva

After doubling up an opponent and dropping back a little bit, Barry Hutter just won a decent pot off Upeshka De Silva to get back up to 670,000.

With 37,000 in the middle on the {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades} board, Hutter checked, and De Silva bet 16,500. Hutter check-raised to 50,000, and De Silva called.

The river was the {5-Clubs}, and both players checked.

Hutter tabled the {Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for top pair, and De Silva mucked his hand.

Three-Way Clash Sends Pilgrim Home

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dwyte Pilgrim
Dwyte Pilgrim

Dwyte Pilgrim, James Mordue, and Cory Glass were all in on the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Spades} flop. Pilgrim had the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for an overpaid of aces and he had the second biggest stack of the trio. Mordue had the most chips and held the {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for trip nines. Glass had the {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for an open-ended straight flush draw, and he had the shortest stack of the bunch.

The dealer corrected the pot before she ran out the turn and river, which meant all three players were playing for the main pot, while Pilgrim and Mordue were involved in a side pot.

The turn was the {J-Hearts} to give Mordue a full house, but then the case {J-Clubs} hit on the river and Glass also made a full house. With that, Glass and Mordue chopped up the main pot, and then Pilgrim lost out to Mordue for the side pot and was eliminated.
