WinStar Ambassador Maria Ho is back in the field today and just won a pot to get roughly back to starting stack.
She raised in early position and the player in the big blind defended. The flop came and the big blind checked to Ho. She bet 300 and the big blind raised to 1,025. Ho called.
The turn paired the board with the and the big blind led for 1,200. Ho called. Both players checked the on the river and Ho took down the pot with , beating the of her opponent.
Rania Nasreddine bet the flop and got one caller. The turn was the and both her and her opponent checked. They both checked the river when the hit the board as well.
Nasreddine showed for a flopped set of kings and took down the pot. She is now just over double starting stack. She made a deep run last night, but fell just short of bagging for Day 2 last night and is hoping for a better result today. So far so good.
Jose Montes was in the small blind facing a raise to 300 and a call. Montes reraised from the small blind, making it 1,400 to go. The original raiser folded and the caller four-bet to 5,500. Montes went all in for about 17,000 and his opponent quickly called.
Montes had the best of it with against the of his opponent. The board ran out and Montes won the hand to double up.
Brandon Steven is back in the field today after failing to bag Day 1a. He attempted to create some action with a straddle, tossing in 200 under the gun.
Karen Norman was next to act and raised to 900. The action came back to Steven.
"The first one is not good," he said as he looked at the second of his hole cards, "Oooo."
He called the raise and the flop came . He checked and Norman bet 1,600. Steven called. The turn was the and both players checked. They both checked again on the river when the hit and Norman won the hand with for a flush.
It has been a pretty good year for Nipun Java. He won not one but two WSOP gold bracelets this summer. He and countrymen Aditya Sushant became the first two players from India to win WSOP bracelets in the $1,500 Tag Team Event and then Java went on to win the $1,000 Online Event, becoming India's only two-time bracelet winner.
He also won two other tournaments so far in 2017. A $570 Deepstack tournament for $230,848 in August and a smaller $360 tournament for $17,949 just before the WSOP in April.
He now sits with just under $2.3 million dollars in live tournament winnings and is making his first appearance in this year's WinStar River Poker Series Main Event here on Day 1b.
A few more familiar faces have shown up today for Day 1b. WSOP Poker Hall of Famer TJ Cloutier has joined the field along with Mike Dentale.
Barry Barron and Rania Nasreddine join a few of the players returning for their second attempt at Day 2. Nasreddine finished around 40th place last night.
