Chris Staats Invokes a Hellmuth-Esque Response From Mike Dentale

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mike Dentale limped under the gun and Chris Staats raised in position to 4,000. Dentale called.

The flop came {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and Dentale led for 6,000. Staats called.

The river was the {a-Hearts} and Dentale bet 8,000. Staats called quickly.

"Nice catch," Dentale said showing {j-}{10-} expecting to be shown an ace from Staats.

Staats indeed showed an ace, holding {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

Dentale questioned the call on the turn with no spade and only drawing to an ace. He then seemed to look forward to playing future pots together.

"You got a lot of chips, better hope we're not at the same table," Dentale said.

Staats didn't respond and just stacked the chips, while a nearby friend came over and made a joke about Staats turning into Teen Wolf.

Gregg Merkow Calls a Shove

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Gregg Merkow called a raise to 4,500 on the button and the flop came {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

His opponent went all in for 18,300.

"Already?" Merkow asked, "blind?"

"No, I looked. Nothing I can do now," his opponent replied.

Merkow called and showed {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, which was ahead of the {a-Spades}{4-Hearts} of his opponent.

Merkow would go on to win the hand when the board came {8-Clubs} on the turn and {2-Spades} on the river.

Kevin Eyster

With two limps ahead of him, Kevin Eyster said he was all in from the cutoff. It looked to be about 22,000. The early-position limper jammed over the top and isolated Eyster.

Eyster: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}, no help to the WPT champ.

Mike Dentale

Mike Dentale opened under the gun to an unknown amount and Anthony Spinella three-bet to 9,000. Dentale called.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Dentale checked. Spinella bet 9,000 and Dentale called.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, bringing three diamonds onto the paired board. Dentale went all in and Spinella folded.

"I'll show you one," Dentale said showing the {a-Spades}.

"You don't need to show me any," Spinella quickly replied, "I was gonna shove there."

Allen Kessler Doubles With a Boat

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

"Not a bad hand to go all in with," he said.

He did get one caller who had {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Kessler doubled up with a full house.

Berry Can't Get There

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Will Berry
Will Berry

Will Berry fired a final Day 1b bullet before registration closed, and he shoved all in soon after sitting when someone opened to 3,100 in middle position. That player called with {j-}{j-} and Berry found himself dominated and hoping for a king with {k-}{j-}. The flop brought the deck's final jack, and the Oklahoma-based pro headed for the doors with only Day 1c left to punch a Day 2 ticket.

Hinkle Gets Lucky, Doubles Through Spinella

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Grant Hinkle shoved all in for about 18,000 early, and Anthony Spinella put in calling chips in middle position. Everyone else folded, and they tabled their cards.

Hinkle: {10-}{10-}
Spinella: {q-}{q-}

The flop delivered a straight draw for Hinkle, but he turned a set and faded Spinella's remaining outs to double through.
