Quads for Kempe

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Rainer Kempe
Rainer Kempe

Three players were still active in the hand with the board reading {4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. The action checked to Rainer Kempe in the cutoff who bet 2,600. Kelli Shields called from early position and John Reading also came along.

The river was the {k-Diamonds} and Shield led out for 6,000. Reading thought for a minute and then ditched his cards. Kempe shoved all in and Shields quickly called off her remaining chips. Kempe turned over {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for quad threes while Shields showed {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for a full house. Kempe barely had Shields covered, eliminating her and doubling his stack in the meantime.

Rettenmaier Takes It on the Flop

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

There was a raise to 500 from middle position and two players called before the action was on Marvin Rettenmaier in the big blind. The German poker pro three-bet to 2,800 and was only called by the initial raiser.

The dealer fanned the flop of {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Rettenmaier led out for 3,200. His opponent gave it some thought but elected to dispatch his cards to the muck, awarding the pot to Rettenmaier.

Wang Runs Into a Set

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Mike Wang opened to 400 from middle position and was called by the hijack and the big blind. The flop fell {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and all three players checked to see the {q-Diamonds} on the turn. The big blind checked again and Wang tossed in a bet of 700. The hijack just called and the big blind got out of the way.

The river was the {k-Hearts} which brought a halt to any more action. After both players checked, Wang turned over {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for two pair only to have his opponent table {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a set. Wang is still sitting above starting stack after getting off to a good start.

There are currently 265 entries part way through the second level of the day. The 2016 WSOP Colossus winner, Ben Keeline, is one of those entries as he looks to spin up a stack in the early going.

The tournament staff has advised that they need around 465 entries today to meet the $2,000,000 guarantee. Late registration will remain open until approximately 7:30pm so there is still plenty of time to get in on the action.

Patterson Returns to Starting Stack

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Tyler Patterson lost a few small pots to start the day but has since returned to his near starting stack. With the board reading {q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, the action checked to Patterson on the button who checked back.

The river was the {9-Spades} and the hijack checked again. Patterson tossed in a bet of 2,000 into a pot of around 3,500 and his opponent paid him off. Patterson turned over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} which proved to be enough to win the pot.
