Kelly Scores Another Knockout With Aces

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Eric Kelly
Eric Kelly

Eric Kelly opened to 1,600 and was three-bet by the cutoff to 4,200. Stacey Jones was in the big blind and called, putting action back on Kelly. Kelly four-bet to 17,000 and the cutoff went all in. Jones folded and Kelly called.

Eric Kelly: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Cutoff: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, giving Kelly a small sweat when the king came on the turn en route to winning the pot. His stack was totaled to be 52,700 after the hand, whereas his opponent's was 48,500. The entire pot was sent Kelly's way and the newly-eliminated player made his way out of the tournament area.

Ho's Kings Earn a Double

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

A pot of 18,000 was already built up between three opponents, and after the {j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop fell, Ting Ho jammed for 17,600 from the small blind. Patrick Wagner tanked for a minute before making the call from under the gun, while the hijack folded.

Ting Ho: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Patrick Wagner: {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Wagner's top pair was well behind the kings of Ho, and Wagner failed to find a jack on the {10-Spades} turn and {9-Hearts} river to earn Ho the double.

"JJ" Beats JJ

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

There was around 12,000 in the pot as a player on the button was in the process of calling off his stack for less than the 20,000 in front of Justin Jones. The board read {4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, meaning all action was completed with one card to come.

Jones tabled {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a set of fours.

His opponent held his cards in his hand face-down as the dealer burned and turned the river {2-Clubs}.

The all-in player sent his cards to the muck and the dealer was reminded that all hands must be tabled for tournament play. She flashed his second-best hand of {j-}{j-} and sent the pot to man who goes by "JJ."

For the past week, WinStar has been playing host to a series of side event as a part of the 2019 Labor Day River Series. While PokerNews is only offering live updates from the Main Event, we still wanted to give some love to the lucky WinStar winners.

One such event was Event #3: $500 Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO), a tournament that drew 122 players.

That meant the top 13 players got paid, and of those the top 11 struck a deal that saw them all lock up at least $4,741 while Kyle Monaco was crowned champ for $5,291.

Missing out on the deal but cashing the tournament were Shane Howeth and Ngoc “Long” Nguyen, who each won $1,098 for finishing in 12th and 13th place respectively.

Smith Bets Big

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

On a {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop, action checked over to Rex Smith in the cutoff, who bet 5,000 into a pot of around 6,000. The big blind folded, the under-the-gun player called, and a middle position player tossed his hand away.

The under-the-gun player checked again on the {7-Diamonds} turn, and Smith quickly bet 10,000. Smith's opponent turned over {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} and tossed his hand to the muck, and Smith flashed his {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} to the table before raking in the pot.

Johnston Check-Shoves the Flop

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Thomas Johnston saw action folded to him in the cutoff and limped in. Stephen Brown was on the button and raised to 1,000. The big blind called, as did Johnston, and the three went to the flop {4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

Action checked to Brown, and he made a continuation-bet of 1,700. The big blind quickly folded to put action back on Johnston, who check-raised all in. Brown then looked over at the 9,100 total that Johnston committed and tossed his cards to the muck, resulting in the pot being sent Johnston's way.

Sharpe Re-Enters, Immediately Doubles

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Justin Sharpe
Justin Sharpe

Justin Sharpe came by the PokerNews Live Reporting desk to share how his fortunes had shifted since re-entering the tournament after he busted earlier.

Four players limped in to see a {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop together, and action checked to a middle position player, who bet 2,000. Sharpe called, as did the button, before the big blind check-raised to 12,000. The middle position player folded, but Sharpe three-bet shoved for 25,000. The button folded and the big blind called.

Justin Sharpe: {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Clubs}{4-}

Sharpe's opponent held a higher flush draw against Sharpe's made flush, but two bricks on the turn and river gave Sharpe an instant double for his second bullet.

Garduno Catches Bluff With Aces

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

A player limped in from under the gun and Adrian Garduno raised to 1,500 on his direct left. Action folded around to the player on the button and he called, as did the original limper.

All three players checked the flop {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The turn came {3-Clubs} and the under-the-gun player bet 2,300. Garduno called and the player on the button folded.

With action heads up, the dealer burned and turned the river {2-Clubs}. The under-the-gun player fired out another 6,500 and Garduno called.

"Good call, " said the player who was under the gun.

Garduno tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and took down the pot with his aces as his opponent sent his cards to the muck.

The Ol' Aces Against Jacks Against Five-Deuce Preflop Showdown

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

In a three-way all in clash preflop, Scott Squyres was all in for his last 27,800 preflop from the cutoff, a player in middle position was in for his last 11,000, and the big blind had both players covered and had called.

Middle Position: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Scott Squyres: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Big Blind: {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Squyres got a sweat from the middle position player when the {10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Spades} flop gave the jacks a gutshot straight draw, but the {4-Diamonds} turn and {8-Diamonds} river bricked off, giving Squyres a more than double up and a knockout.
